STATESBORO — Colquitt County’s Aaron Eubanks recorded his first career complete game on Saturday as Georgia Southern defeated Wofford 12-1 at J.I. Clements Stadium.
Will Southwell, Eubanks’ former Colquitt County High teammate, went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in.
Southwell is batting .333 for the season and has driven in nine runs.
Eubanks needed 137 pitched to dispatch the Terriers as Southern raised its record to 26-22.
From the third through the eighth inning, he retired 14 straight batters and 17 of 18. That one batter reached on an error.
The junior left-hander scattered six hits, walked two and struck out a career-high nine batters.
Eubanks is now 2-2 on the season and he lowered his ERA to 3.50.
“The key today was getting ahead in the count,” Eubanks said after the game. “Once we got the lead and continued building on it, I knew I had to go out there and keep runners off base.
“It’s the best feeling in world being able to come through when the team needed me. I think we’ll build off today like we did yesterday. I knew I wanted to finish the game but my pitch count early in the game was getting high. (Matt) Miller made a great play off wall then in-between innings I found my change up. If Matt doesn’t make that catch it’s likely a 2-1 game and a different story.”
Southern will go for its first Southern Conference sweep of the season when it plays host to Wofford at 1:30 p.m. today.
