MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County High baseball team’s playoff hopes took a blow on Friday when the Packers were defeated 8-3 by Coffee High in Douglas.

The loss drops the Packers to 4-6 in the region with just two Region 1-AAAAA games — against Lowndes on Tuesday and Tift County on Friday, both at home — remaining.

Colquitt is now tied for fifth in the region with Houston County, also 4-6.

Lowndes raised its region record to 8-2 and clinched the region championship with an 11-9 victory over Warner Robins at Noel George Field on Friday.

The loss dropped the Demons’ region record to 3-8.

The Trojans victory was their second of the season over the Packers and raised their record to 6-4 and enabled them to take over second place in the region.

Coffee rallied for three runs in the seventh inning to defeat Colquitt County 4-3 in Moultrie in the first meeting between the two teams.

The Trojans lost their first two region games of the season, but have won six of their last eight.

Valdosta knocked off Tift County 10-2 at the Devil Diamond on Friday to raise its record to 6-5 and stake a claim on third place.

The Blue Devils fall to 5-5, but have the edge on claiming fourth place in the region and a berth in the state playoffs.

The Packers loss in Douglas will make it difficult for them to find a way into the playoffs.

Also on Tuesday, Coffee will go to Warner Robins and Houston County will travel to Tift County.

The region season will conclude next Friday with Lowndes at Houston County, Coffee at Valdosta and Tift County at Colquitt County.
