MOULTRIE — Three Colquitt County teams remain alive in state competition this week, with the girls gymnastics team preparing to defend its state championship tonight.
The Colquitt County girls gymnastics team will compete at 7 tonight in the state championships at the Westminster Schools in Atlanta.
The Lady Packers, who became the first team outside of the Atlanta area to win a state title last year, were one of the six teams to advance from last week’s qualifying meet to the finals.
Colquitt had just four gymnasts — Kaitlin Tucker, Kambria Blakely, Rachel Dampier and Arrienne Miller — at the area meet. The team will be bolstered tonight by the return of All-Stater Leah May.
The Colquitt County girls tennis team, which won its first-round state tournament match on Tuesday, will travel to McDonough on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. second-round match with Union Grove.
The Lady Packers, the Region 1-AAAAA runners-up, dispatched Morrow 5-0 in the first round.
Union Grove, the Region 2-AAAAA champion, won over Windsor Forest 3-2 on Tuesday.
A victory on Tuesday would send the Lady Packers to the third round to meet the winner of the Newnan-Camden County match.
Newnan advanced with its 3-2 victory over Tift County in the first round.
The Colquitt County boys soccer team, which took a stirring 5-3 overtime victory over Paulding County on Wednesday at Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium, will not know its second-round opponent until tonight.
The Packers will meet the winner of the first round match between Camden County and Lithonia, which will be played at 7 tonight. The match is expected to be played on Wednesday.
The Camden County boys are ranked No. 10 in the state in Class AAAAA and have a 15-1 record.
