MOULTRIE — University of Georgia head football coach Mark Richt will be the speaker at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Southwest Georgia banquet, to be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, at Heritage Church.

The church is located at 844 Highway 33 South, the Pavo Road.

The 2007 season will be Richt’s seventh as the Bulldogs head coach.

In his first six seasons, he has compiled a record of 61-17 overall and 34-14 in the SEC.

Richt is one of just nine coaches in Division I-A history to reach 60 or more victories in his first six season.

He also is one of just six coaches to win two Southeastern Conference championships in his first five years. The others are Alabama’s Frank Thomas, Florida’s Steve Spurrier and Nick Saban and Georgia’s Vince Dooley.

Richt is one of just five coaches in SEC history to have four straight 10-win seasons.

Over the last five years, 32 of Richt’s players have been taken in the NFL draft and between 1987 and 2000, six of his Florida State quarterbacks went on to play in the NFL.

Two — Charlie Ward and Chris Weinke — won the Heisman Trophy.

Richt played at Miami, primarily as a backup to future Buffalo Bills star Jim Kelly. Among his Hurricane teammates were Vinny Testaverde and Bernie Kosar.

He was on the staff at Florida State for 15 years, seven as offensive coordinator.

Richt is married to the former Katharyn Francis of Tallahassee. They have four children.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is the nation’s largest outreach to student athletes. For more information, contact the local FCA at 890-3112 or go online at www.fcatifton.org.
