MOULTRIE — John Michael Harrison stroked a bases-loaded triple and Carter Jones followed with a single as the Colquitt County baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat Holy Innocents 6-4 on Friday in the Wildcat Invitational at Lowndes High.

The victory ended a two-game losing streak and raised the Packers record to 4-3.

Colquitt will return to Valdosta today for its final game of the tournament. The Packers will meet Ware County at noon at Valdosta High, rather that at Billy Grant Field at Valdosta State University, as was originally scheduled.

After committing 17 errors in their last two games, the Packers had just two boots on Friday, neither of which figured in Holy Innocents run.

“We made the routine plays tonight,” Packers assistant coach Craig Pitts said. “We played with more intensity and we got the bat on the ball.”

The Packers broke out offensively, banging out 12 hits, including three by junior shortstop Blake Cato. One of his hits was a double.

Harrison, Jones and Spenser Richardson each had two hits. Andrew Wallace, Matt Weaver and Cam Fitzgerald each had one hit.

Cato now has 11 hits in the first seven games of the season.

Wallace, the senior left-hander, started on the mound and went the first three innings.

Clark Coleman took over in the fourth and pitched two innings.

Tyler Perryman relieved Coleman in sixth and was the beneficiary of the four-run Colquitt County outburst.

Perryman got the win and Weaver, who finished it up, got the save.

Holy Innocents is an Atlanta private school of Class A size that plays in Region 6-AA.

Last year, the Golden Bears went 13-3 in Region 5-AA and finished 26-8.

In the playoffs, Holy Innocents won three series before being eliminated in the semifinal by Wesleyan 16-11 and 9-4.

“I was impressed with them,” Pitts said. “They hits some shots that our defense had to run down.”

Holy Innocents also played Thomas County Central at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Wildcat Invitational concludes today with the Colquitt County-Ware County game and a matchup between Lowndes and Jenkins High of Savannah at 11 a.m. at Lowndes.

The Packers will travel to to meet Bainbridge High in Bainbridge at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The Region 1-AAAAA portion of the schedule will begin when the Packers travel to Houston County for a 7 p.m. game on Friday.
