Flora Bridges Harrington Brown

NEWTOWN, Pa. — Flora Bridges Harrington Brown, 86, died Monday, March 5, 2007 in Newtown Square, Pa. while recovering from a recent stroke.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 10 at Mother Easter Baptist Church with the Reverend Emory H. Hopkins officiating, assisted by Reverend David Oakes and Elder William Revill Sr. Burial will follow in Strong Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers are Glenwood Bridges, John Bridges, Roy Bridges, Willenton Dale Bridges Sr., Lewis Balkcom and Todd Myrick. Honorary pallbearers are the Deacons of Mother Easter Baptist Church.

Although spending recent years away from Moultrie with her daughters, she was a long-time Moultrie resident. She was born on Nov. 3, 1920 in Colquitt County to the late John Bridges and the late Eva Hancock Bridges. She owned and operated a beauty salon in Moultrie for 40 years.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, Winburn Drew Harrington Sr. and the Reverend Morris Brown; her son, Captain Winburn Drew Harrington Jr.; eight brothers, Clifton Bridges, Roscoe Bridges Sr., Ellihue Bridges, Mirdis Bridges, Rubin Bridges, John Bridges Jr., Thomas Bridges and Mildry Bridges; three sisters Irene Cain, Vivian Dennis and Earlie Anderson.

Survivors include seven daughters, Winifred Uyvonne Wright of Hyattsville, Md., Wilma Joyce Robinson and her husband Theodis Robinson of Eagle, Wis., Alice Grill Johnson and her husband Michael Bernard Johnson Sr. of Annapolis, Md., Myrtis Laverne Walker and her husband Bennie L. Walker of Brentwood, Tenn., Lakeeta Moise Nichols of Pittsburgh, Pa., Conchita Gatell Cox and her husband Leslie G. Cox of New York, N.Y. and Revita Jana Harrington of Newtown Square, Pa.; former daughter-in-law, Stephanie Harrington Welch of Norfolk, Va.; two step-sons, Charles Brown and his wife Valerie J. Brown and Walter Brown and his wife Debbie Brown of Long Beach, Calif.; a brother, Melvin Bridges of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters-in-law, Mattie Bridges (Mirdas) of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Lucille Bridges (Melvin) of Mount Olive, N.C.; 13 grandsons, (Wilma) Leajato Amara Robinson of New York, N.Y., (Alice) Michael Bernard Johnson II, of Baltimore, Md., Evan Christian Johnson of Blue Ridge, Va., (Conchita) Leslie Drew Cox and Kristopher Harrington Cox of New York, N.Y., Troy Alexander Cox of Pittsburgh, Pa., (W. Drew) Kirkland Drew Harrington, (Stephanie), Grace Welch of Norfolk, Va. and Cole Welch of Lansing, Mich., (Charles) Anthony Brown, Kenneth Brown and his wife Vanessa Brown and Drew Brown, (Walter) Nicholas Brown and Taylor Brown all of Long Beach, Calif.; three granddaughters, Amber Alys Walker of Los Angeles, Calif. (Lavern), Sommer Moise Johnson (Alice) of Long Beach, Calif. and Grace Welch (Stephanie) of Norfolk, Va.; two great grandsons, Jagis Walker-Sprague and Ivan Choat (Amber) of Brentwood, Tenn.; two great-granddaughters, Jade Maelka Walker (Amber) of Brentwood, Tenn. and Meli Natalna Cox (Kristopher) of New York, N.Y.; two nephews considered sons, James R. Cain of Moultrie and Jerome “Duke” Haggins of Fort Washington, Md.; a niece considered a daughter, Charity C. Scott of New York, N.Y.; a special friend Minnie Bell Walker of Moultrie; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, adopted children and friends.

Visitation will be held at Mother Easter Baptist Church on Friday, March 9 from 6 until 8 p.m.

Tony Harley Bruce

MOULTRIE — Tony Harley Bruce, 49, of Moultrie died Monday, March 5, 2007 at his residence.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m., today, March 8 at Hopewell Cemetery with the Rev. James Sellers officiating. The pallbearers will be Sam Weeks, O.J. Walden, Al Connell, Billy Gunn, Tom McGee and Sammy Jones.

Born Jan. 20, 1958 in Colquitt County, he was the son of the late Harley Herman Bruce and Ruby Lee Sellers Bruce. He was a farmer.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles F. Bruce.

Survivors include a son, Aaron Taylor and wife Jamie of Clayton, N.C.; daughters, Ashley Denise Bruce and friend Erik Johnson of Greenville, N.C., Angela Michelle Bruce and friend Will Marshall of Clayton, N.C. and Amy Johnson and husband Drek of Doerun; brothers, Dewey Bruce and wife Margaret of Moultrie and Wayne Bruce of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Mary Bruce Burnette and husband Al Dewitt Jr. of Norman Park; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Bruce of Moultrie; four grandchildren, Nathan Johnson and Zachary Taylor both of North Carolina and Katelin Johnson and Thomas Johnson both of Doerun.

Hazel Flanders Emeneger

SPARKS, Ga. — Hazel Flanders Emeneger, 85, of Sparks, Ga. died Sunday, March 4, 2007 at Memorial Convalescent Center.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, March 9 in the chapel at Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home with Father Lorenzo Garcia officiating. Burial will follow on Monday, March 12 at Andersonville National Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Hollis Flanders and wife Jimmie of Tifton, Ga. and Johnny Flanders and Mary Ruth of Sparks, Ga.; a daughter, Jean Pafford and husband Calvin of Thomasville, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 9 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home, Hwy. 41 South.

James Wallace Irvin

MOULTRIE — James Wallace Irvin, 53, of Moultrie died Friday, March 2, 2007 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, March 10 at Live Oak Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. J.W. Greene officiating assisted by the Rev. Rufus Jolly. Burial will follow in the St. James Pallbearers Cemetery #2 with Leroy Blount, Tony Jones, Cornell Dunbar, Palace Harris, Gerald Young, Johnny Daniels and Jimmy Myles serving as pallbearers. The honorary pallbearers will be J.B. Johnson, Clyde Hunt, Ranger Davis, Elbert Carr, Harry Green, Wilson Randell, Eddie Howard, Jackie Myers, Charles Carter and Lorenzo Richardson.

He was born Sep. 24, 1953 in Moultrie to Lillie Mae Johnson Irvin of Moultrie and the late Walter Irvin.

Survivors include his wife, Glori Ann Irvin of Moultrie; two sons, Christopher Davis of Atlanta, Ga. and Melvin Davis of Lumpkin, Ga.; two brothers, Willard Harper of Moultrie and Michael Harper and wife Bernice of Hinesville, Ga.; two sisters, Rose Dunbar and friend Palace Harris of Moultrie and Hilda Jean Cromarie and husband James of Philadelphia, Pa.; two uncles, J.B. Johnson and Willie Johnson III and wife Mary both of Norman Park; father-in-law, Wesley Blount and wife Emma of Coolidge, Ga.; special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Willie B. Harper of Moultrie; a grandson, Latrells Thompson; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family will receive friends and family at the home of Gloria Irvin, 719 East Central Ave. in Moultrie.

Visitation will be Friday, March 9 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Luke Strong and Son Mortuary Chapel.

Johnny Gibson “Gippy” Morris

MOULTRIE — Johnny Gibson “Gippy” Morris, 86, of Moultrie died Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 10 at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Worsham and the Rev. Jerry Deans officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with Drew Pope, Lee Morris, Dale Morris, David Whittington, Billy Baron, Roger Singletary, Ricky Singletary and Morris Duncan serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Senior Adult Mens Sunday School Class of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Born Oct. 24, 1920 in Colquitt County, he was the son of the late Billy Scott Morris and Hattie Sellers Morris. He was a brick mason and a farmer. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and a Navy Veteran.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Evelyn Duncan, Thelma Baron, Pearl Iva Strickland and Peggy Singletary.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Lee Cox Morris of Moultrie; 3 sons, James C. Morris and wife Helen of Stockbridge, Ga., Danny L. Morris and wife Glenda and Larry Gibson Morris all of Moultrie; a daughter, Elrena Vincent and husband Donald of Stockbridge, Ga.; three brothers, Arnold Morris of Meigs, Carzell Morris of East Point, Ga., Eutis Morris of Senoia, Ga.; a sister Betty Jean Pope of Moultrie; 13 grandchildren, John Morris, Randy Price, Beth Middleton, Tommy Price, Yvonne Morris, Kelly King, Hope King, Adam Morris, David Morris, T.J. Morris, Michael Morris, Mechelle Kidd, Leon Morris; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 9 at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Paul Welch

PAVO, Ga. — Paul Welch, 41, of Pavo, Ga. died Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Friday, March 9 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery with the Rev. James Sellers officiating.

Born Feb. 5, 1966 in Homerville, Ga., he is the son of Mary Lou Baldree Welch and the late Dewey “Dock” Welch. He was a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas “Possum” Welch.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Lou Baldree; sons, Roman Welch of Pavo, Ga. and Quinton Welch of Pavo, Ga.; brothers, Tommy Welch of Pavo, Walter Welch and wife Cindy of Pavo, Billy Welch and wife Michelle of Pavo and Joe Welch of Pavo; sisters, Diana Sutton and husband Danny of Pavo; nieces, Jodie and Jennifer Welch and Morgan and Amber Welch; nephews, Josh, Matt and Michael Sutton and Thomas Welch; and great-nephews, Adam Sutton and Dillon Welch.

Visitation will be today, March 8 from 7 to 9 p.m.
