MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County junior varsity and middle school soccer teams went out on the road on Monday and each came back with a victory and a tie.
In Douglas, the Colquitt junior varsity girls survived their most physical match of the season and blanked the Coffee High girls 2-0.
The game was tied 0-0 at the half, but the Lady Packers got the goal they needed from Margarita Moreno on a cross from Carley Banks in the second half.
Banks added an unassisted goal — her sixth of the season — later in the half.
“It was the most physical match I’ve ever seen,” Colquitt County girls coach Andy Chapura said. “At the half, I told them if that’s the way it’s going to be, then we have got to step up and play.
“We were more aggressive in the second half. I was proud of the way we played. We never gave up.”
The JV girls are now 2-3-1.
The Coffee High junior varsity boys scored a late goal to forge a 1-1 tie with the Packers.
The Colquitt County goal was scored by Yasmanie Santiesban, his fifth of the season.
The junior varsity teams go to Lee County on Thursday.
The Colquitt County middle school girls battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie Valdosta 2-2 at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium on Monday.
The Lady Packers got their first goal on a long shot by Jordan Hammack in the second half.
“She just launched it and punched it over the goalie’s head and into the back of the net,” said Colquitt County middle school girls coach Ashley Hill.
It was Hammack’s first goal of the season
Moments later, Colquitt’s Lauren Kelshaw fired a shot on goal that the Valdosta keeper couldn’t handle. Lindsey Causey then punched it in the net for the tying goal.
Causey has a team-leading five goals this season.
“I’ll take that tie,” said Hill, whose team defeated Valdosta 3-1 in Moultrie.
The middle school Lady Packers are now 3-0-1 on the season.
The Colquitt County middle school boys defeated Valdosta 3-1 to raise their record to 3-0.
Rich Tyndall scored two goals and Daniel Moreno got the other. Carlos Bautista got an assist.
The middle school teams will travel to Valdosta on Saturday to meet Lowndes and Hahira.
