After winning the women’s title in last Saturday’s 5-kilometer race at the Bank of America Gasparilla Distance Classic in Tampa, Amy Paine told Bill Ward of The Tampa Tribune that she believes her competitive running days are not over.

“I feel like God gives everyone different gifts and I’m using the one with the shortest shelf life first,” said the former Colquitt County High and Rhodes College runner.

Paine won the race with a personal-best time of 17 minutes, 30 seconds, defeating two-time race winner Brigithe Moreno of Plant, Fla., by 50 seconds.

Paine taught in Louisiana graduating from Rhodes College, which is located in Memphis, Tenn.

She is now on Florida State track and cross country coach Bob Braman’s staff as a volunteer assistant. She also is teaching at a Christian school in Tallahassee and is training hard again.
