MOULTRIE — After head football Brian VanGorder left Georgia Southern after one year to become linebackers coach for the Atlanta Falcons, Colquitt County offensive lineman B.J. Baker, who has verbally committed to the Eagles in mid-December, was assured that his scholarship was not in jeopardy.
But last week, Baker was advised by Georgia Southern, now coached by former Valdosta State University coach Chris Hatcher, that his scholarship offer was rescinded.
It didn’t take long for another Division I-AA school, to snap up the Packers 6-foot-4, 300-pound offensive tackle.
An All-Region 1-AAAAA first-team selection, Baker committed on Monday to Charleston Southern, a member of the Big South Conference located in Charleston, S.C.
The Crusaders were 9-2 last year under coach Jay Mills. The team featured wide reciever Maurice Price, who had 103 receptions last year and has announced he will enter the NFL draft.
The Big South Conference also includes Coastal Carolina, Gardner-Webb, Liberty, and VMI. Charleston-Southern was 2-2 in the conference.
