Colquitt basketball teams head to Valdosta

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County boys basketball team, with close losses in each of its first two Region 1-AAAAA games, can expect to be challenged again when it travels to Valdosta tonight.

The Wildcats opened the Region 1-AAAAA part of its schedule with a 75-68 victory over Houston County on Saturday.

The Bears had won their region-opener the night before, hitting three free throws with one second left to defeat the Packers 56-55.

Colquitt County’s boys lost another close one Saturday night, falling to Coffee High at the Gladys Espy Gymnasium 58-55. Senior guard Channing Hudson had 27 points for the Packers.

The game at Valdosta will be the first of three this week for Colquitt County, all of which will be on the road. The Packers and Lady Packers will travel to Tift County on Friday and to Douglas for a rematch with Coffee on Saturday.

The Colquitt County girls also will be seeking their first region victory tonight.

The Lady Packers will meet a Valdosta team that fell to Houston County 55-50 on Saturday.

The Lady Bears’ Tonia Williams had 32 points in the game.
