Youth basketball opens Monday

MOULTRIE — The Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Department’s youth basketball season opens this week with one league for girls and two for boys.
The girls league, which has three teams, will open at 6 p.m. Monday with the Magic playing the Packers.
The Jazz will open its season at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday with a game against the Packers.
The Magic, coached by Mark Davis, includes Tara Reynolds, Ainsley Davis, Bailey Brewer, Tamera Edwards, Amber Parsons and Shyderria Seay.
Dede Paulk is coachin the Jazz, whose roster includes Abbi Beth Paulk, Shleby Rakestraw, Taylor Marie Grim, Blakelee Handfield, Kara Menix and Nyah Burke.
The Packers, coached by Todd Presley, include Makeba Ponder, Kaylea Presley, Cheyenne Tillman, Emily Dozier, Savannah Tillman and Bastian Griffin.
The Packers and the Heat will make up the 9-and-under boys league, which opens at 6:20 p.m. Thursday.
Donald Key will coach the Heat. His players are Macione Gamble, XyQwantis Blakely, Trey Hancock, Donald Key Jr., Malakah McCastle, Noah Moore, Shaheem Ponder and Johnari Green.
Playing for Lamar Paulk’s Packers are Naryan Grier, Jared Horne, Carlton Paulk, Jamarcus Peterson, Isiah Walters, Darian Edwards Jr., Gavin Phillips, Savonta Slaughter and Deodrick Thompson.
Four teams are playing in the 12-and-under boys league, which opens on Tuesday with the Lakers meeting the Suns at 6:20 p.m. and the Hawks and Heat playing at 7:10 p.m.
The Heat, coached by Terry Grant, includes Rakeem Hightower, Marviq Richardson, Christopher Sharp, Cambrick Taylor, Jamaree Grant, Quen Jenkins, Tymetrius Lowery and Jamiyus Pittman.
The Lakers, coached by Jeff Davis, include Parker Hoes, Devante Jackson, Jeffery Davis, Maleek Lewis, Denerick Simpson, Taphari Wright, Lorrin Brock, Devin Mincey and Michael Sutton.
Coach Lamier Slaughter’s Hawks include Fracis Kundi, Leavohn Lewis, Darryl Phillips, Austin Young, Jonathan Edwards, Tevin Hightower, Samuel Howard and John Peterson.
Coach Carl Tolbert’s Suns include Andy Bush, Mack Hathcock, Gabe Mobley, Kenji Thompson, Jay Tolbert, Gradyn Grobe, Garrett Pearce and Akeem Rhymes.
The leagues will run through the first week in February.
