Carol Warner “Dick” Davidson
DOERUN — Carol Warner “Dick” Davidson, 87, former mayor of Doerun, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at his residence, 716 Marlin St. in Doerun.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 26, at First Baptist Church of Doerun with burial at Sale City Cemetery. The Rev. David Benton will officiate, and casketbearers will be Mike Horne, Larry Carlton, Max Gay, Ray Saunders, George Saunders, James Tyson, Ken Tate and T. E. Wingate Jr. Honorary casketbearers will be James Walters, Fleman Harris, Pete Somerindyke, Tom Chatman, deacons of First Baptist Church of Doerun, deacons of Grace Baptist Church and stewards of Doerun United Methodist Church.
Mr. Davidson was born May 14, 1919, in Mitchell County, son of the late Clifford Whitley Davidson and the late Warner Davidson. A graduate of the University of Georgia, he was owner of Davidson Cotton States Insurance Agency. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Doerun. He was a retired vocational agricultural teacher at Doerun High School. He served 12 years on the Doerun City Council and six years as mayor of Doerun.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Jay McDaniel Davidson of Derun; one son, Earl Davidson and wife Linda of Albany; one daughter, Penny Baker and husband Bruce of Albany; three grandchildren, Amy Davidson Nobles and Matthew Bryan Baker, both of Albany, and Lyndi Baker Soles of Hahira; three great-grandchildren, Cassie Nobles, Riley Nobles and Bryan Baker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Agnes Cobb Davidson.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. today, Dec. 26, at Doerun First Baptist Church social hall. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Doerun.
