Lillian Christine “Bits” Roberts Beard
MOULTRIE — Lillian Christine “Bits” Roberts Beard, 74, of Third Street Southeast in Moultrie, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, at her daughter’s home in Greenville, N.C.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at First Presbyterian Church with burial at Westview Cemetery. The Rev. Hugh Ward will officiate, and casketbearers will be Danny Tillman, Richard Parker, Doug Parker, Dale Parker, David Parker and Adam Berrisford. Honorary casketbearers will be Christy Sullins, Jason Arnold and the women of the First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Beard was born Nov. 17, 1932, in Worth County to the late Nancy Tomlinson Roberts and the late James Bryant Roberts. She was the widow of former Colquitt County Sheriff Eugene Monk Beard.
Mrs. Beard was associated with Moultrie National Bank (now Southwest Georgia Bank) for 32 years. She was a member of Moultrie National Bank Retirees Breakfast Club and the Pilot Club. She was former treasurer of the Colquitt County Arts Center and was a member of the Women’s Federated Guild, for which she served as chairman of the antiques show. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 54 years, serving for 12 years as treasurer for the Women of the Church Executive Board; she was also a member of the Tuesday Morning Circle and the Cornerstones.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Beard was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Roberts and J.T. Roberts, and two sisters, Vivian Parker and Lucille O’Kelly.
She is survived by two sons, Eugene Monk Beard Jr. of Brunswick and James Bryant Beard of San Diego, Calif.; one daughter, Cindy Beard Lowery and husband Terry of Greenville, N.C.; two sisters, Iris Tillman of Moultrie and Helen Sullins and husband Chris of Valdosta; and four grandchildren, Terry Neal Lowery, Thomas Eugene Lowery, Gloria Christine Beard and Mary Elizabeth Beard.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Cobb Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Georgia Sheriff’s Boys Ranch, Hahira, GA 31632 or First Presbyterian Church, Cornerstones, Moultrie, GA 31768.
