MOULTRIE — Caroline Rogers won a silver medal in the 200-yard individual medley and was fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke to lead the Colquitt County High swim team in the Bainbridge Bearcat Bash meet held Saturday at the Bainbridge YMCA.

Rogers turned in a time of 2:41.21 in the individual medley and a 1:21.43 in the breaststroke, an event she placed first in at the meet in Douglas the week before.

Her two top-five finishes earned her a tie for the ninth-best individual score among the 205 female swimmers.

Colquitt County had 16 swimmers in the most competitive meet of the young season.

The meet drew 408 swimmers from 20 schools. The Colquitt County girls were 11th among the 13 girls teams.

Colquitt County freshman Kara Dobbs, in her first 200-yard freestyle race, placed eighth with a 2:39.55.

Amy Peek, who was second on the team in points at Douglas the previous week, knocked 32 seconds off her career fastest time in the 50-yard freestyle to finish ninth.

Also taking a ninth-place finish was the relay team of Rogers, Dobbs, Peek and Ashlee Paramore.

The foursome was ninth in both the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay events.

The top male finishers for the Packers were Caleb Meister and Taylor Walsh, both in their second year of swimming for the Packers.

Meister, is his first 2006 meet, turned in a career-best 1:03.87 in the 100-yard freestyle to finish 14th.

Walsh, who suffered an injury in the men’s medley relay, finished 14th in the 100-yard backstroke with a 1:18.50, slightly off his best time.

Swimmers who surpassed their season-best times were Dobbs (200 free), Paramore (200 free), Nathan Yost (50 free), Joe Peacock (50 free, 100 free), Aubrey Perryman (50 free, 100 free), Katy Weilbrenner (50 free, 100 free), Meister (100 free, 100 back), Chris Phillips (100 free), Jesi Faulkner (100 free), Peek (500 free) and Jenny Garner (50 free).
