JV Packers defeat Baker

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County High junior varsity basketball team raised its record to 2-1 with an 81-64 victory over Baker County on Monday.
The JV Packers were led by Mario Haynes, who had 26 points. Rashad Edmonds added 12, Brian Berl had nine and Jamiel Tyson added eight points.
Baker was led by Montread Daniels who had 18 and Reginald Woodward, who had 14.
The JV Packers will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Worth County.
middle school wrestlers fall
MOULTRIE —The Colquitt County middle school wrestling team dropped a match at Cook Middle School on Monday, losing 57-25.
Colquitt County got pins from Tay Spivey and Bryce Giddens.
Winning by technical decision were Ronnie Caldwell and Richard Kinsey. Jay Jones won by decision.
In the extra matches, Kevin Lemire won by a pin.
The middle school wrestlers will travel to Valdosta on Thursday to meet Valdosta and Thomas County Central.
The middle school wrestlers will be back at the Pineland gymnasium on Wednesday, Dec. 13 to face Turner County and Lee County.
seventh-grade boys win at buzzer
MOULTRIE — Rashad Richardson drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Colquitt County seventh-grade boys basketball team a 37-36 victory over Tift County on Monday in Tifton.
Trailing by two, the youngest Packers in-bounded the ball with 5 seconds remaining. After getting the ball past the half-court line, Richardson let fly with the long shot, which hit nothing but net.
The victory was the second of the season for Colquitt County over Tift County by just one point. The Packers won in Moultrie on Nov. 20 in overtime 46-45. Ty Smith led Colquitt County on Monday with 14 points. Richardson added nine. DaQuan Nelson and Trey Scott each had six and Stacy Blackwell had two.
The seventh-grade Packers are now 4-2 and have won four in a row since losing their openers to Valdosta and Merry Acres.
The seventh-grade girls fell to Tift County 33-23 on Monday, despite 12 points from Maranda Trim. Kenisha Seay had four, Cheyenne Reynolds had three and Ja’nise Sailor and Samaria Head each had two.
The seventh-graders play at Hahira on Thursday, Dec. 14 and will meet Merry Acres at 10 a.m. on Dec. 16 at the C.A. Gray gymnasium.
