John Spence Griner

MOULTRIE — John Spence Griner, 87, of Old Doerun Road in Moultrie, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at Magnolia Manor South.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at Baker Funeral Home with interment at Baker Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Wayne Goff will officiate, and pallbearers will be Michael Cox, John Hurbert Hunnicutt, Felton Mercer, Jimmy McClure, Mark Chafin and Chris Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be the Calvary Sunday School Class.

Mr. Griner was born Oct. 19, 1919, in Mitchell County, son of the late Elias Jackson Griner and Mary Ann Jarrell Griner. He was a Missionary Baptist and was retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. A veteran of World War II, he was council commander with Woodmen of the World, worked in the Sunday school class at Calvary Baptist Church and was a member of the Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife, Martha W. Griner; one son, John Stanley Griner of Nichols; one daughter, Mary Ann Cox of Keystone Heights, Fla.; one sister, the Rev. Opal Golden of Dickerson, Texas; three grandchildren, John Jefferson Griner of Moultrie, Michael Cox and wife Tammi of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Susan Cox and husband John Schiffermueller of Archer, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren, Brad Cox and Beth Cox, both of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen West and Ruth Daugherty.

His adopted family included the late Eula Jarrell as well as Melvin Jarrell and wife Janice of Moultrie, Lillian Fowler of Moultrie, M.L. Jarrell of Moultrie and Undeen Gleen of Columbus, Ga.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today, Dec. 3, at Baker Funeral Home.

Annie Ruth Iler

MOULTRIE — Annie Ruth Iler, 91, of Moultrie, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Formerly of 2024 New York Ave. in Savannah, Mrs. Iler was the widow of Jess Willard Iler. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Savannah for more than 50 years and was a foster parent to many children. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Edwin Bazemore.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Terrell Bazemore of Brooklet, Ga., and Betty and Ron Lewis of Moultrie; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Bob and Leisa Bazemore, David Bazemore, Dennis and Tracey Bazemore, Teri Ann and Jimmy Carabello, William Bazemore, Judi Ann Lewis, Susan Denise and Greg Bordenkircher and John Randal and Becky Lewis; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel in Savannah.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Bible Baptist Church in Savannah with Dr. Cecil A Hodges and the Rev. Thomas W. East officiating.

Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Garden.
