MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County wrestling team continues to make its way with a number of freshmen and other inexperienced team members, but it did get its first victory on Thursday and performed well in another.

Coming on the heels of a closer-than-expected, three-point loss to Cook in Tuesday’ season-opener, the Packers knocked off Randolph-Clay and fell to Westover on Thursday at Westover.

The Packers are still giving up six points a match by having to forfeit at 103, but have recruited Donovan McGowan to fill in 189-pound spot. And some of the young wrestlers are getting better, coach Greg Tillery said.

In Thursday’s 60-30 victory over Randolph-Clay, the Packers got a pinfrom Nathan Fowler at 112 and Lawrence Glenn and Jocory Dillard followed with two more pins.

After Tyler Dismuke was pinned at 130, Zacorey Weaver won by forfeit and Beau Weathers was pinned at 140.

Shawn Jiminez won by pin in first round, but Dillon Underwood and Taylor Huite were both pinned.

Colquitt then won at 160 and 171 with pins by Emory Wheeler and Justin Jones.

After losing by forfeit at 189, Colquitt won at 215 on a pin by Ricky Grier and at 185 on a pin by Antonio Sutton.

Against Westover, Colquitt lost by forfeit at 103 and fell at 112 when Fowler was pinned.

Glenn won by a 7-6 decision at 119 and Dillard got his second straight pin of the evening at 125.

Dismuke was pinned, but Weaver won on a first-period pin.

But Colquitt lost by pins at 140, 145, 152, 160 and 171 before winning by forfeit at 171.

Grier and Sutton both completed perfect days by pinning their Westover opponents. Grier’s came in the second period. Sutton’s was in the first.

The Packers will return to the mats on Tuesday when they play host to Bainbridge at 6 p.m. at the Pineland gym.

Colquitt will travel to Adel on Friday and Saturday next week to take part in the Hornet Classic.
