Middle school wrestlers win two

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County middle school wrestling team opened the 2006-2007 season on Saturday in Tifton, defeating Tift and Lee County and losing to Ben Hill on a tiebreaker.

“We saw a lot of good things,” said coach Travis Torbert. “We saw a lot to build on.

“We were really encouraged as coaches.”

In the team’s opener, it tied with Ben Hill 39-39, but lost the tiebreaker to fall to 40-39.

For Colquitt County, Anderson Glenn, Jacob Hall, Kenny Ashby, Tay Spivey, Zach Cannon and Travis Register won by pin.

Bowen Aguero won by a decision.

In its second match, Colquitt stormed past Lee County 56-20.

Winning by pin were Jacob Hall, Jesse Goff, Tay Spivey, Vandall Gordon, Todd Lynch, Jamarius Willis and Travis Register.

Coleman Neal and Chris Doyle won by mjor decision.

NaBrian Page and Blake Powell won by decision.

Colquitt won over host Tift County 45-34.

Chris Doyle, McCants Plymel, Blake Thompson, Kevin Lemire, Patrick Melton, Clavin Blount and Bryce Giddens won by pin. Blake Segers took a decision.

The middle school wrestlers will meet Hahira and Lowndes beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Pineland gymnasium.

It will be the first of seven matches scheduled for the team’s home mats.

Colquitt will compete in the Viking tournament beginning at 9 a.m. at Lowndes.

The middle school Packers will be back at Pineland at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21 to face Bainbridge.
