MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County boys finished third and the girls came in fourth on Wednesday at the Region 1-AAAAA cross country meet in Warner Robins, qualifying both teams for the state meet.

The top four teams from each region will run in the state meet, which will be held on Nov. 11 in Carrollton.

“I am really proud of both of our teams,” Colquitt County cross country coach Mell Wier said.

Tift County’s girls won their 12th straight region championship with 42 points, outdistancing second-place Houston County, which had 53. Warner Robins was third with 66 and the Lady Packers were fourth with 83 points.

Lowndes was fifth with 119 points and was followed by Valdosta, with 148, and Coffee, with 198.

Carly Banks led the Lady Packers, turning a sixth-place finish. She was followed by Kristin Hall, who was 14th; Morgan Hayes, 15th; Marissa Aldridge; 23rd and Jenna Jones, 25th.

Wier was especially pleased with Aldridge.

“She ran a fantastic race,” Wier said.

The Colquitt County boys were just three points out of second place.

Warner Robins was first on its home course with 46 points. Tift County was second with 68 and the Packers followed with 71. Houston County qualified for state by finishing fourth with 79 points. Valdosta was fifth with 127, followed by Lowndes, with 129, and Coffee, with 148.

“We were just passing one person away from being second,” Wier said.

Tyler Dismuke led the Packers with a 17:47, good for fourth place. Dismuke spent much of the fall with the ninth-grade football team, but has been back with the cross country team recently.

“He has a tremendous amount of talent,” Wier said of Dismuke.

Carlos Charles was two seconds back of his teammate and was fifth.

Julio Perez was 16th, Marcos Gomez was 20th and Nathan Fowler was 26th.

“Nathan pr’d by a minute and 10 seconds,” Wier said. “He really stepped up today.”

In the junior varsity race, Karlie Brown was third in the girls competition. Nic Price was eighth in the boys race.
