Lady Packers second in Albany

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County girls cross country team was second and boys team was third in the Monroe Invitational held Thursday in Albany.

Westover finished first in both races. Lee County was second in the boys event.

Kristin Hall led the Lady Packers with a third-place finish. Carly Banks was close behind in fourth and Morgan Hayes was sixth.

The other Colquitt County girls to finsi were Sarah Tyndall, 19th; Jenna Jones, 21st; Laura Robinson, 24th; Marissa Aldridge, 25th; Angela Moxley, 26th; Reyna Contreras, 30th; Luz Rodriquez, 42nd; Danielle Jenkins, 43rd; Judy Rhodes, 44th; and Julie Sexton, 47th. The race drew some 70 girls, coach Mell Wier said.

Julio Perez was fourth for the Packers top finish. Fellow sophomore Carlos Charles was ninth.

“I was proud of Carlos and Julio,” Wier said. “They stuck their nose in there and ran hard.”

Jebb Cato finished 21st; Marcos Gomez was 22nd; Joe Peacock was 37th; Daniel Phillips was 39th; Nathan Fowler was 43rd; Brent Allen was 48th; Judd Cato was 49th; Nic Price was 52nd; and Ryan Sherling finished 67th.

The boys race drew 85 runners.

The Packers and Lady Packers will compete in the Tift County Invitational in Tifton on Saturday.
