MOULTRIE — A record field is expected for the 52nd annual Ramsey Pidcock Invitational, which will begin its two-day run today at Sunset Country Club.

According to Sunset golf pro Bob Windom, 208 golfers will compete in the annual four-ball invitational.

And there is plenty of quality in the 208-man field.

“It’s the strongest championship flight in years,” Windom said.

Among those taking part will be the defending championship team of brothers Kevin and Andy Blanton.

The pair shot a 65-61 for a two-day 126 to win the championship last year by three stokes over Nic Daugharty and Nathaniel Balanis.

The two would have to be among the favorites again this year.

They have eight Ramsey Pidcock champioships between them.

Andy Blanton has been on the winning team five times, with five different partners.

Andy got his first Ramsey Pidcock victory in 1998 teaming up with Josh Broadaway.

After brothers Chad and Brad Eunice won the tournament in 1999, Andy Blanton teamed with Brad Eunice to win in 2000.

It was the first of three straight victories for the former Colquitt County High and Valdosta State golfer.

In 2001, he won with Billy Edwards. The following year, Blanton won with Chris Erwin.

After Chad Eunice and Jon Ladson won in 2003 and Jason Flowers nad Donnie Parker took the title in 2004, Blanton and his older brother Kevin took the title last year.

Kevin is no stranger to Ramsey Pidcock Invitational hardware either. He and Chad Eunice won the tournament in both 1993 and 1994.
