Players win at state tennis tournament

MOULTRIE — Colquitt County players won five divisions and were runners-up in six others in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association’s state tennis tournament held last week at the Jim Buck Goff Recreation Complex.
The tournament drew 71 players from three GRPA districts. Players from Moultrie, Eastman, Mitchell County, Ware County, Wayne County, Tifton, Valdosta and Pierce County took part.
Blake Jenkins took the lone Colquitt County singles championship.
The doubles championships went to the teams of Jessica Harvin and Carli Hester, Cody Jenkins and Josh Smith, Andrew Harvin and Coby King an Blake Jenkins and Bo Blalock.
The Colquitt County players who finished as runners-up were singles players Courtney Terrell, Rachel Funderburk, Cody Jenkins, Cody King, Bo Blalock and, in the adult division, Bruce Terrell.
In the 10-and-under girls singles finals, Eastman’s Lila Coleman won over Courtney Terrell 6-3, 1-3 (retired).
In the 10 boys singles, Cody Jenkins won over Wayne County’s Baxter Ray 6-0, 6-1 in the first round.
In the semifinals, Jenkins won over Eastman’s Kel Fascion 6-1, 6-0, and Ware County’s Luke Littlefield defeated Josh Smith 6-1, 6-3.
In the finals, Littlefield defeated Jenkins 6-1, 6-1.
Rachel Funderburk won her 12 girls semifinal match over Eastman’s Virginia Hargrove 6-0, 6-0, but fell in the finals to Jaye Hilliard of Eastman 2-6, 6-4, 6-0.
In 12 boys singles, Coby King won his first-round match over Brian Broady of Eastman 6-0, 7-6(7-3), and won his semifinal match over Ware County’s Jake Williams 6-0, 5-1 retired.
Jess Jones of Eastman won his semifinal match over Andrew Harvin 6-0 6-1 and then took the title with a 6-0, 6-0 win over King.
The 14 boys singles division featured an all-Colquitt County finals.
Bo Blalock won his first round match, dispatching Pierce County’s Blake Boyd 6-1, 6-3.
Erik Evans of Eastman won the other first-round match, defeating Joshua Lairsey of Pierce County 6-3, 6-7(7-3), 6-2.
In the semifinals, Blalock eliminated John Mark Carter of Eastman 6-3, 6-2 and Blake Jenkins won over Evans 6-1, 6-0.
In the finals, Jenkins defeated Blalock 7-6(7-3), 7-5.
In 16 girls, Eastman’s Taylor Jones won a semifinal match over Jessica Harvin 6-1, 6-1.
Alicia Shaw of Mitchell County won the other semifinal match Ashanta Edwards of Eastman 6-4, 6-3.
Jones won in the finals over Shaw 7-5, 6-4.
In 16 boys, Ware County’s Blake Dixon won over Eastman’s Shane McCranie 6-1, 6-0 in one first-round match. Christopher Harvin defeated Eastman’s Adam Johns 6-0, 6-1.
In the semifinals, Tifton’s Thomas Flowers defeated Dixon 6-7(7-4), 6-0, 6-4, and Ware County’s Bob Davis knocked off Harvin 6-1, 6-3.
In the finals, Davis defeated Flowers 6-3, 6-1.
In 18 boys singles semifinal matches, Stephen Moore of Valdosta won over Eastman’s Erich Raybon 6-3, 6-0, and StevenHeard of Eastman won over Mitchell County’s Bryant Anglin 6-3, 6-2.
In the finals, Heard won over Moore 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.
Eastman’s Natalie Smith won the 18 girls singles title, defeating Valdosta’s Alison Keener 6-3, 6-1 in the finals.
In 10 boys doubles, Colquitt County’s Smith and Jenkins won over Brock Allen and Clint Godwin of Mitchell County 6-1, 6-0 in the finals.
The Eastman duo of Hargrove and Shantoria Burns defeated Abbey Anglin and Laken Lewis of Mitchell County 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 in the 12 girls finals.
In the 12 boys semifinals match, Broady and Mark Edwards of Eastman won over Moultrie’s David Forehand and Reed Wells 6-2, 7-6(7-5).
Harvin and King won the 12 boys title, defeating Edwards and Broady 6-0, 4-1(retired) in the finals.
In 14 girls doubles, Roxanne Stuckey and Jamie Jones of Eastman defeated Moultrie’s Laura Hill Bannister and Ivey Jane Reeves 5-7, 7-6(7-0), 6-3 in a first-round match.
In the semifinals, Arnold and Fulford of Ware County eliminated Stuckey and Jones 6-3, 0-6, 7-5, and Jones and Hodges of Eastman eliminated Harvin and Constance Terrell of Moultrie 6-1, 6-3.
In the finals Jones and Hodges won over Arnold and Fulford 6-1, 6-0.
In 14 boys doubles, Mitchell County’s Braden Anglin and Wheeler Briggs won their semifinal match over Carter and Evans of Eastman 6-1, 6-2, and Blake Jenkins and Bo Blalock dispatched Boyd and Lairsey of Pierce County 6-2, 6-0.
Jenkins and Blalock won the title with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Anglin and Briggs.
In girls 16 semifinal matches, Harvin and Carli Hester won over Snyder and Bollhurst of Eastman 7-5, 4-6, 6-0, and Jones and Edwards of Eastman defeated Kayla Kelley and Laura Murphy of Moultrie 6-2, 6-0.
Harvin and Hester won their finals match over Jones and Edwards 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
In 16 boys, Davis and Dixon of Ware County defeatedAandrew Stargel and Trey Harrison of Mitchell County 6-0, 6-0 in one semifinal match. Taylor High and Will Murphy of Mitchell County defeated Johns and McCranie of Eastman 6-0, 6-0.
In the finals, Davis and Dixon won over High and Murphy 6-3, 6-2.
In 18 boys doubles, Heard and Raybon of Eastman defeated Tyler Sanders and Jamie Butler of Mitchell County 6-0, 6-1 in a semifinal match.
In the finals, Anglin and Buerkle of Mitchell County won over Heard and Raybon 6-2, 6-2.
In the 35 and older men’s division finals, Mark Edwards of Eastman defeated Bruce Terrell 6-0, 6-0.
