Dale receives Region scholarship

MOULTRIE — For the first time, the schools that make up Region 1-AAAAA have decided to award a pair of $500 scholarship to deserving student-athletes and Colquitt County High golfer Josh Dale is one of the recipients.

The award was presented to Dale, a member of Colquitt County’s state championship golf team, at the school’s Honors Night on Tuesday.

The other recipient is Leah Taylor, who played softball and tennis at Lowndes High.

Both are outstanding students as well as being contributing members of their school’s athletic teams.

Dale has a 95.3 grade average and ranks 15th in the Class of 2006, which will graduate next week.

He is a member of Skills USA, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the National Honor Society and has received the Georgia Certificate of Merit.

Dale also has been involved with Relay for Life and has been a volunteer at his church daycare center.

Son of Willie J. Williams Middle School physical education teacher and Colquitt County High golf coach Donald Dale and Sue Dale, a registered nurse at the Colquitt County Health Department, Josh Dale has been one of the top four players on the Packers golf team for four seasons. This year, the Packers won a remarkable six tournaments, including four during the regular season, plus the Region 1-AAAAA and state tournaments.

Dale will attend the University of Georgia, where he plans to major in education and chemistry.

Taylor is the daughter of Lowndes High Principal Wes Taylor.

In addition to being a member of the Lowndes High softball teams that won Region 1-AAAAA championships in 2003 and 2005, she joined Savannah Roberts on the Vikettes No. 1 doubles team in tennis.

She has a grade average of 94.968 and is ranked 26 in the Lowndes High graduating class of 545.

She will attend the University of Georgia and major in biology and then earn a nursing degree.

Taylor is involved in a number of community service activities and is a member of the Beta Club, Spanish Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Key Club, Anchor Club, the Park Avenue Bank Student Advisory Board and the Class Cabinet.

She is an honor graduate and a University of Georgia National Merit Award winner.
