MOULTRIE — Moss Farms Diving coach Ron Piemonte is taking nine of his Tigers to Boston, Mass., this weekend for U.S. Diving’s Spring East Nationals and sounds as if he expects his charges to perform well.
“The kids are coming off good Regional meets,” Piemonte said. “They are diving well, we’ve had good weather and the kids are training hard. They should be confident.”
The East Nationals will be held Friday through Sunday at the Blodgett Pool on the campus of Harvard University in Boston. The event is being sponsored by Charles River Diving.
Elizabeth Ann Kirkland and Leah Piemonte will be the first Diving Tigers in the water when they take part in the girls 11-and-under 3-meter event that will open competition at 2 p.m. Friday.
The two also will compete in 1-meter event.
Also representing Moss Farms are Ali Lepech, Kelsey Goodman, Ann Perry Blank and Jillian Braun in the girls 14-15 age group.
Braun will compete only on the 3-meter springboard. The other three will dive on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.
Ryan Helms, Owen Blank and Anna Aguero are in the fields in the 16-18 age group.
Helms and Aguero will dive on both boards. Owen Blank will dive 3-meter.
“We’ve got a good group going,” Ron Piemonte said. “They were ready for this three weeks ago. Hopefully, we can put it all together and have good team score.”
The top six finishers at regional competitions advanced to Boston.
Braun, Aguero, Helms, Piemonte, Owen Blank and Ann Perry Blank qualified for the East Nationals at a Regional event in Middletown, Conn., earlier this month.
Aguero was first on 3-meter and Helms was first on 1-meter.
Goodman, Lepech and Kirkland qualified a week later at a Region competition in Islamorada, Fla.
Lepech took first place on the 3-meter board and Goodman was first on the 1-meter.
