MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County girls tennis team will begin to enjoy the spoils of its fourth-straight Region 1-AAAAA championship at noon next Wednesday when it meets Tri-Cities at the Jim Buck Goff Recreation Complex.
Tri-Cities, of East Point south of Atlanta, is the No. 4 team from Region 2-AAAAA.
If the Lady Packers can get by the Lady Bulldogs, they would play the winner of the first-round matchup between Camden County and Union Grove.
Camden is the No. 2 team from Region 3-AAAAA. Union Grove is the No. 3 team from Region 4-AAAAA.
The second and quarterfinal rounds will be played on May 6 at the John Drew Smith Center in Macon this year.
The semifinals and final again will be played May 12-13 at the Stone Mountain Tennis Center.
Colquitt County’s girls will be trying to reach the Final Four for the second straight year.
The Lady Packers have taken advantage of their top seed the last three years, dispatching No. 4 seeds.
In 2003, the Lady Packers beat Houston County in the first round, 4-1. The next year, they blanked Morrow 5-0. Last year, Colquitt got another 5-0 win, eliminating Savannah Arts.
The Lady Packers advanced to the quarterfinals in 2003 and 2004 and reached the Final Four last year before being eliminated by Walton.
The other three Region 2-AAAAA girls representatives and four boys representatives to the state tennis tournament were not available from the Georgia High School Association office on Friday.
