Barbara Newsome Wilkes
NORMAN PARK — Barbara Newsome Wilkes, 59, of Sleepy Bear Road, Norman Park, died Friday, April 14, 2006, at Magnolia Manor South Nursing Center.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Monday, April 17, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with burial at Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens in Moultrie. The Rev. Julian Griner will officiate, and casketbearers will be Gary Jenkins, Brent Maule, Scotty Gibson, Scotty Sinclair, Mike Newsome and Brad Griffin.
Mrs. Wilkes was born May 4, 1946, in Colquitt County to the late Lottie Mae Jenkins Newsome and the late Henry Paul Newsome. She was a security guard at Maule Air and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Randall K. Wilkes; one son, Kyle Wilkes; and a brother, Henry Paul Newsome.
Survivors include two sons, Kit Wilkes and wife Michelle of Moultrie and Keith Wilkes of Norman Park; two brothers, Eugene Bunker Newsome and wife Sydney and Henry Frank Newsome, all of Moultrie; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Newsome of Moultrie; and two grandchildren, Ty Wilkes and Cole Wilkes.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today, April 16, at Cobb Funeral Chapel. The family may be contacted at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Kit Wilkes, 2764 Sardis Church Road in Moultrie.

Johnsie Elizabeth Surratt Ladson
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — Johnsie Elizabeth Surratt Ladson, 90, of Ridgewood Street in Altamonte Springs, died Friday, April 14, 2006, in Orlando, Fla.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, at Westview Cemetery with the Rev. J.E. Moak officiating.
Mrs. Ladson was born July 31, 1915, in Jackson County, N.C., the daughter of Gertrude Ventura Johnson Surratt and Franklin Gurney Surratt, both deceased. She was a registered nurse and a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Moultrie.
Survivors include her husband, William Francis “Bill” Ladson; a daughter, Tommie Jean Ladson of Altamonte Springs; five grandchildren, Dan L. Murphy, Johnsie C. Nelson, William F. Ladson III, Charles P. Ladson and Betty Sweet Ladson; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William F. Ladson Jr.; and four brothers, Harold Surratt, Franklin G. Surratt Jr., George P. Surratt and Henry Surratt.
Visitation will be 6-7:30 p.m. Monday at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Edward Price McLean Jr.
MOULTRIE — Edward Price McLean Jr., 69, of Bull Creek Road, Moultrie, died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
Private graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 17, at Westview Cemetery with the Rev. Hugh Ward and Mr. Keith Brown officiating. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service.
Mr. McLean was born Aug. 28, 1936, in Ft. Worth, Texas, to the late Margaret Brabham McLean and the late Edward Price McLean. He was a graduate of the Moultrie High School Class of 1954 and a graduate of Georgia Tech. He was president of McLean’s Engineering Company for 30 years before his retirement. He was an Army veteran and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Moultrie, the Elks Lodge, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the American Council of Engineers and the International Electric and Electronic Engineers.
Survivors include his wife, Marsha Quarterman McLean of Moultrie; one son, Logan McLean of Moultrie; one daughter, Jennifer McLean Vereen and husband Michael of Canton; two brothers, Bill McLean and wife Jan and Jim McLean, all of Moultrie; one sister, Anne King and husband Roger of Moultrie; and three grandchildren, Michael Vereen IV, Carsen Vereen and Brooks Vereen.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Colquitt County, the American Lung Association or First Presbyterian Church.

Louise Monk Plaxico
CLINTON, S.C. — Louise Monk Plaxico, 83 and the widow of Tom Plaxico, died Friday, April 14, 2006, at the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina in Clinton.
She was born in Moultrie, Ga., and was the daughter of the late Wiley Monk and Eula Curry Monk.
Mrs. Plaxico was voted “Most Intellectual” by her high school graduating class, and she began her career as a bookkeeper in Moultrie. On the invitation of her former minister and president of Thornwell Orphanage, Dr. Malcolm McDonald, she moved to Clinton in 1946 to become assistant bookkeeper at Thornwell. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Clinton for 60 years, a faithful choir member, and a former president of Sunbonnet Garden Club. She worked with her husband for 17 years as his bookkeeper at Plaxico Chevrolet in Clinton. In their retirement they enjoyed gardening, traveling to Europe and regionally and visiting their children and grandchildren. Since 1999 she resided at the Presbyterian Home of Clinton.
Surviving are her three children, Dr. David Thomas Plaxico of Macon, Ga., Sharon Plaxico Peery of Tazewell, Va., and Lorraine Carroll Plaxico of Weaverville, N.C.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and a special friend, Betty Cureton.
She was predeceased by her sister, Marilyn Monk Groover, of Macon, and her brother, Wiley E. Monk of Atlanta, Ga.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 17, in the chapel of the Presbyterian Home in Clinton, S.C.
The family will greet friends 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the main parlor of the Presbyterian Home.
A private family graveside service will precede the memorial service.

Gladys Clinton
FLAGLER, Fla. — Gladys Clinton, 86, died Friday, April 14, 2006, at Florida Hospital in Flagler.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Kingdom Hall, 3501 Clyde Morris Blvd., off International Speedway in Port Orange, Fla.
Mrs. Clinton was the daughter of Nancy and Spencer Mercer Sr. of Moultrie. She married Robert J. Clinton, a Navy pilot from Staten Island, N.Y., who preceded her in death.
As a registered nurse, Mrs. Clinton worked in public and private hospitals and helped develop the nursing curriculum for southwest Georgia. Upon the death of her husband in 1980, she moved to Macon to be with her daughter, a professor at Georgia College and State University.
Mrs. Clinton became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1972. Her family said her greatest joy was sharing the good news of God’s kingdom, particularly the passages of Isaiah 9:6,7; Daniel 2:44; Matthew 6:9,10; and Luke 4:43.
Survivors include her daughter, Dr. Barbara J. Clinton of Daytona Beach Shores, Fla.; her brother, Spencer Mercer Jr. of Augusta, Ga.; and nephews and nieces, Spencer Mercer III, Charles Mercer Jr., Zeke Mercer, Scott Mercer, Glen Mercer, Barbara Mercer, Richard Foster, Michael Foster, Susan Jackson, Ann West, Marie Mercer, Shea Mercer and Sandra Patton.
Lillie B. Giles
MOULTRIE — Lillie B. Giles, 69, of Moultrie, died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at her residence, 219 Third St. S.W.
