Black Sox fall in semifinals of Bash

MOULTRIE — Colquitt County’s Georgia Black Sox, an 11-and-under all-star team, won two games before losing in the semifinals of the Middle Georgia Baseball Bash held March 25-26 in Dublin.
The Black Sox opened with a 23-5 victory over the Marion County Eagles of Buena Vista, banging out 19 hits.
Matt Gerald and Andrew Eunice did the pitching, with Gerald getting the win.
Preston Berry helped get the Sox off to a strong start by hitting a three-run homer in the first inning. Berry also had a double in the third inning.
Daren Kent and Tyler Yost each had a double and a single and Blake Bennett had three singles. Gerald, Alex Abbott and Garrett Pearce each had two hits.
The Black Sox advanced to meet the Middle Georgia Sluggers from Dexter and won 15-2.
Yost and Bennett pitched, with Yost getting credit for the win.
Kent led the offense with a single, a double and a two-run homer. Bennett and Berry each had a double and a single and Abbott and Dustin McAlpin each had two singles. Dillon Frazier and Aubrey McCarty contributed doubles.
The Black Sox had just six hits in the semifinal and fell to Macon’s Middle Georgia Bulldogs 8-5.
Bennett and Abbott pitched, with Bennett taking the loss. McCarty had a double and a single and McAlpin and Gerald each had a double.
The team batted .510 for the tournament.
Bennett led the way with an .875 average. Kent batted .714; McAlpin and Berry hit .571; Abbott hit .556; Pearce hit .500; Gerald, 429; and Eunice batted .400.
The Black Sox will play next on April 29-30 in a tournament in LaGrange.
