MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County middle school girls soccer team will try to end its 2006 season on a winning note when it travels on Wednesday to Tifton to meet Tift County.

The Lady Packers, who will take an 8-0-3 record into the match, will try to duplicate their 3-1 Wednesday victory over Tift County at Mack Tharpe Stadium at Tom White Field and finish the season undefeated.

Colquitt’s middle school girls lost twice to Tift County last year and would like to turn the tables on the middle school Lady Devils this season.

The middle school Lady Packers got a win and tie in Saturday’s matches at the stadium.

Colquitt met Hahira first and battled to a 0-0 tie. Both of the matches between the two schools resulted in scoreless ties this season.

“We were aggressive and made good passes, we just could not get anything in,” Colquitt County coach Ashley Hill said. “It was a very tough game. Hahira is the only team we could not score on this season. We really wanted a win against Hahira, but a tie is better than a loss.”

After waiting out the Colquitt County-Hahira boys match, the Lady Packers defeated Lowndes for the second time this season, winning 4-2.

Colquitt County’s first score was an own goal, compliments of the Lowndes defense just four minutes into the match.

Hannah Fambro scored the first goal of her career eight minutes later to put the Lady Packers up 2-0. Jordan Hammack scored the final two Colquitt County goals.

Hill said he gave plenty of playing time to some of the younger players who were not on the field much in the matches against Tift County and Hahira.

He also gave Jordan Boyd, Hannah Vereen and Morgan Hayes a chance to move from the defensive end of the field and join the offensive attack.

“They played totally different positions and were very aggressive,” Hill said.

Hill said he expects Tift County be difficult in Wednesday’s rematch.

“I know they are going to come after us,” he said. “We know it will be a very competitive game.”

The Colquitt County boys will have some added motivation on Wednesday. The Packers’ 2-0 loss to Tift County last week was the first for the program since it started in 2003. The Colquitt County boys will take an 8-1-2 record into the match.
