MOULTRIE — John Fordham made the Sunset Country Club golf course look easy on Tuesday.

The Willie J. Williams Middle School eighth-grader shot a 5-under par 67 to lead Colquitt County a 15-stroke victory in the second Baby Packer Invitational golf tournament for middle school teams held at Sunset.

“He lit it up,” said Colquitt County coach Matt Key. “And he had three bogeys. He could easily have had a 63 or 64.”

With Fordham leading the way, Colquitt County shot a 323, beating second-place Hahira by 15 strokes. Coffee was third with a 358.

Lowndes and Tift County also took part.

The other three scoring players for Colquitt County on Tuesday were Billy Edwards, who had an 84; Davis Edwards, who shot an 85; and Preston Mobley, who turned in an 87.

Key said when he awoke to rain Tuesday morning he has visions of 2005 when the first Baby Packer Invitational was shortened to nine holes by a storm.

“It was a little windy, but really, it was absolutely wonderful,” Key said.

Of course, having one of your players play 5-under par helps, too.

“It was fun to watch,” Key said.
