Busy sports day ahead

MOULTRIE — Today is a local sports fan’s dream.

There are seven events involving Colquitt County teams going on today, including five being held in Moultrie.

The Colquitt County High baseball team will try to make it two in a row when it plays host to Westover High at 5:45 p.m. at Ike Aultman Field.

The 2-7 Packers ended a seven-game losing streak with an 11-1 victory over the Patriots on Friday in Albany.

Colquitt will travel to Thomasville on Thursday to meet Thomas County Central, also at 5:45 p.m.

The Colquitt County tennis teams will play host to Lowndes in a pair of Region 1-AAAAA matches beginning at 4 p.m. today at the Jim Buck Goff Recreation Complex.

The unbeaten Colquitt County High rifle team will play host to Rutland High of Macon at 5 p.m. today in a state sectional match.

The winner will advance to the state championships to be held April 1 at Fort Benning.

The other four events feature middle school teams.

The second Baby Packer Invitational golf tournament will begin at 1 p.m. today at Sunset Country Club.

The middle school soccer teams will play host to Valdosta at Mack Tharpe Stadium at Tom White Field today. The girls match will begin at 4 p.m. The boys match will start around 5:15 p.m.

The middle school tennis teams will travel to Thomasville to meet Thomas County Central in their final regular-season match.

And the middle school track teams will travel to compete at Hahira Middle School today.
