Lady Packers down Thomasville 10-2

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County girls soccer team continued to rebound from Wednesday’s loss to Tift County with a 10-2 whipping of Thomasville High on Saturday in Thomasville.
After absorbing a 6-0 loss to the Lady Devils, their first Region 1-AAAAA loss of the season, the Lady Packers have won successive matches over Valdosta, 4-2 on Friday, and Thomasville.
The victory was the 10th of the season for the Colquitt County against just two losses. The Lady Packers finished 8-11 last season.
The loss to Tift County was especially difficult to take, said Lady Packers coach Jimbo Jarvis.
“It was tough because we didn’t play the way we have been playing,” Jarvis said.
And it took until the second half against Valdosta on Friday for the Lady Packers to find their groove again.
Colquitt’s scored three of their four goals in the final 20 minutes against Valdosta.
Sha Wetherington got the Lady Packers first goal, Alba Hernandez added the next two and Abbey Taylor got the final one.
“It felt good once we got rolling,” Jarvis said.
The fine play in the second half against Valdosta carried over to Saturday, when the Lady Packers met Thomasville at 10 a.m.
Hernandez scored four times, Taylor added three and Wetherington, Whitney Hood and Kristin Hall added one each.
“It was a nice, pleasant overall game,” Jarvis said. “It was a beautiful morning and the girls relaxed and had a good time.”
With six more goals in the last two matches, Hernandez now has scored 21 times in this, her freshman season.
Taylor, also a freshman, now has six goals, all coming in the last five matches.
Wetherington now has 12 goals. Hall also has six and Hood has five.
Jarvis said the Lady Packers have several players nursing minor injuries who will benefit by having the next five days off.
The Lady Packers will return to region competition when they play host to Houston County at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Mack Tharpe Stadium at Tom White Field.
Colquitt also has matches against against Lowndes at home on March 31, against Coffee at home on April 11, at Houston County on April 18 and, in a match the Lady Packers will especially look forward to, at Tift County on April 21.

The Bulldogs, who are 7-2 in Region 1-AA, raised their overall record to 7-2. The win was their third in row.
