Middle school tennis team sweeps Coffee

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County middle school boys tennis team won its fourth straight match to open the season and the girls team won its second straight in a sweep of Coffee Middle School on Tuesday in Douglas.

The youngest Packers had no trouble, winning 5-0.

At No. 1 singles, Ryan Sherling defeated Jacob Green 8-1. At No. 2 singles, Andrew Harvin won 8-0 over Walker White. Blake Jenkins completed the singles sweep, defeated Caleb Johnson 8-1 at No. 3.

At No. 1 doubles, Brandon Oaks and Dylan Underwood won over Titus Jackson and Andrew Tanner 8-5.

At No. 2 doubles, Bo Blalock and John Barber took care of Josh Carroll and Errol Dobbins 8-0.

In extra matches, Jacob Tompkins and Christian Edwards won over Jackson and Tanner, 6-2; Russ DeMott and Trey Jones defeated White and Green, 6-2; Coby King and Kyle Tolbert won over Carroll and Johnson 6-3; Lee Veasey and Jonathan Mobley won over Kadeen Jones and Will Tazur, 6-2; and Tyler Hancock and Landon Rehberg defeated Jones and Tazur 6-5. Reed Wells and Paul Leonard lost to Dobbins and Green 4-6.

The Colquitt County girls won 4-1, sweeping the singles matches.

At No. 1 singles, Constance Terrell won over Kaitlyn Chaney 8-0; Jana Harvin defeated Jessie Brooker 8-0; and Ivy Jane Reeves defeated Anice Betts 8-1.

At No. 1 doubles, Ashton Eunice and Rachel Funderburk defeated Sala Harrell and Kara Shaw 8-2.

Colquitt was forced to forfeit at No. 2 doubles because of an illness.

In extra matches, Terrell and Brooke Kick defeated Brittany Stevens and Sara Snipes, 6-0; Harvin and Reeves won over Laken Farr and Rachel Gray 6-0; and Terrell and Kick won over Alyssa Swords and Julia Cauley 6-0

The middle school teams will return to action today against Bainbridge at the Jim Buck Goff Recreation Complex.
