Middle school tennis teams split

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County middle schools tennis team split its matches with Valdosta Middle School on Tuesday at the Jim Buck Goff Recreation Complex.

The Colquitt County boys team won its second straight match to open the season, edging the Valdosta boys 3-2.

Colquitt County won at No. 3 singles, where Andrew Harvin defeated Savan Patel 8-3; No. 1 doubles, where Brandon Oaks and Bo Blalock won over J.P. Nichols and Trav Harris 8-5; and at No. 2 doubles, where Russ DeMott and Trey Jones defeated Morely Sherman and Matt Wesseman 8-4.

Valdosta won at No. 1 singles, where Tommy Cangelosi won over Blake Jenkins 8-4, and at No. 2 singles, where Stephen Moore got by Ryan Sherling 8-6.

In extra boys matches, Jacob Tompkins and Christian Edwards lost to J.P. Nichols and Trav Harris, 6-7(4-7); John Barber and Dylan Underwood won over Wesley Farquar and Savan Patel 6-4; Kyle Tolbert and Landon Rehberg fell to Kevin Lunsford and Tony Randolph 5-7; Paul Leonard and Reed Wells won over Kaitlyn Rowe and Leigh Ellis 6-2; Coby King and Lee Veasey lost to Tommy Cangelosi and Stephen Moore 3-6; and Tyler Houston and Blake Jenkins lost to Kevin Lunsford and Tony Randolph 6-7(4-7).

Colquitt County’s girls dropped their second straight match, losing 2-3.

The Lady Packers won at No. 3 singles, where Rachel Funderburk defeated Heidi Wigley 8-2, and at No. 1 doubles, where Jana Harvin and Ivy Jane Reeves held off Kaitlyn Rowe and Leigh Ellis 8-3.

Valdosta won at No. 1 singles, where Lesley Brandon defeated Constance Terrell 8-1; No. 2 singles, where Carli Cangelosi defeated Ashton Eunice 8-3; and at No. 2 doubles, where Katy Beth Veal and Holly Haines won over Brooke Kick and Eireann Robinson 8-6.

In the lone extra girls match, Colquitt County’s Rachel Funderburk and Ashton Eunice won their doubles match over Connor Yost and Brittany Ingram 6-0.

Colquitt County will travel to Lowndes on Thursday.
