Arvell Hall

HAHIRA — Arvell Hall, 69, of Hahira died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel in Adel with Elder Thad Marshall and Elder Dwight Marshall officiating. Interment will follow at Fellowship Church Cemetery in Hahira.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Hall of Hahira; two sons, Travis Hall and Ricky Bennett, both of Hahira; three daughters, Sheila Fulp of Cecil, Gwen Bernard of Orlina, Tenn. and Debbie Green of Cross Plains, Tenn.; a brother, Leland Clanton of Hahira; and a sister, Jewel Howard of Tallahassee, Fla.

Stella Effie Lasseter

ADEL — Stella Effie Lasseter, 84, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006 at Memorial Hospital of Adel.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m., today at New Life Baptist Church with the Revs. Stanley Hendricks, Harris Whitman and Roscoe Bennett officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include son, Julian Lasseter of Thomasville and Jimmy Lasseter of Centerville; daughters, Erma Jean Sumner, Mary Nell Boyette and Latrelle Mobley, all of Adel; brother, Dorsey Howell of Bainbridge; sister, Lucille Cowart of Adel; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Bonnie West

MOULTRIE — Bonnie West, 64, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22 at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Clinton Clark officiating. Burial will follow at St. James Pallbearers Cemetery #2. Jay Harris, James McCoy, Melvin Dillard, Claude Howard, Jr. and Roy Dillard will serve as pallbearers.

Born Nov. 1, 1941 in Colquitt County, she was the daughter of the late West Harris and the late Annie Louise Smith Harris.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Judy Ann West.

Survivors include four brothers, J.C. Harris of Marvin, Ga., G.W. Harris and wife Irene and Billy Harris and wife Elizabeth, all of Moultrie, and Willie James Harris of Camden, N.J.; four sisters, Irma Jean Brown and husband Junior of Moultrie, Annie Foster and husband Jerome, Lillie Elerby and husband Ezell and Dorothy Harris, all of Camden, N.J.; two grandsons, Robert Lee West of Camden, N.J. and Jeffrey West of Rochester, N.Y.; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be tonight from 6 – 7 p.m. at Luke Strong and Son Chapel.

Larry Smith

MOULTRIE — Larry Smith, 53, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22 at Luke Strong and Son Chapel with Minister Kiley Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Bailey Chapel Cemetery in Doerun and family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Born Jan. 9, 1953 in Colquitt County, he was the son of Willie Collins and Irene Brown Collins and was employed with the railroad for several years.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Barry Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Ruthie Lee Smith of Miami, Fla.; his mother, Irene Brown Collins of Moultrie; his two sons, Larry Smith, Jr. and wife Lashawn and Lamar Larry Smith, all of Miami, Fla.; two sisters, Marjorie Crews and husband A.B. and Mary Alice Thomas, all of Moultrie; one grandson, Larry Smith III of Miami, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Sammie Spence (Lackey) Flaherty

AUGUSTA, GA. — Sammie Spence (Lackey) Flaherty, 94, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006. She would be remembered by Moultrie residents as “Mrs. Lackey” who was the Assistant Director and Children’s Librarian at the Moultrie Carnegie Library during the 1950’s.

Meeting families and children while conducting story hours and summer reading programs were among her fondest memories. While in Moultrie she was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

From Moultrie, she accepted the position of Chief of Children’s Services as the Augusta-Richmond County Library where she remained until retirement. She continued to love and enjoy little children and she was always anxious to help the less fortunate in need. She considered her friends her most treasured gift, and she enjoyed maintaining life-long friendships in distant places and in many walks of life.

Having worked to send herself to college, she understand the need to help and encourage young people. She continued to support Augusta State University, The Medical of Georgia, Maui Community College and Itawamba Community College in the furtherance of higher education.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her four siblings, one of whom was the late Elizabeth “Libby” Huffaker of Moultrie.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Lackey Moses and son-in-law, Stanley D. Moses of Alpharetta, Ga.

A private internment preceded a memorial service at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church in Augusta, Ga.

Friends wishing to honor Mrs. Flaherty’s memory should do so through their favorite local charity or to the Children’s Department of the Moultrie Colquitt County Library.
