MOULTRIE — Nearly all the members of the Moss Farms Diving Team who took part in the Team Orlando All Star Challenge last weekend were competing in a new age group.

Nic Price, Owen Blank, Ryan Helms, Anna Aguero, Maddie Qurnell, Staci Howard, Jillian Braun, Ann Perry Blank, Kelsey Goodman and Ali Lepech all moved up in classification this year. And, by and large, coach Ron Piemonte said, the Tigers performed well.

“I thought the kids did really well,” Piemonte said on Monday. “I thought there were some good performances for February.

“We nailed a lot of dives. They were just not all at the right times.”

Led by third-place finishes by Goodman and Lepech, the Diving Tigers took third place in the girls competition and fourth place overall at the All Star Challenge.

The meet, which drew some of the top age-group divers in the country and Canada, featured 31 teams, including CAMO from Montreal; the Montgomery Dive Club; and teams from Southern California and the Pacific Northwest.

“There were some high-quality teams there,” Piemonte said.

Goodman, in girls 14-15, was third on 3-meter and also was sixth on the 1-meter springboard in the meet.

Lepech, fresh off a second-place finish in the Georgia High School championships on Thursday in Atlanta, was third on 1-meter and ninth on 3-meter, also in the 14-15 age group.

Moss Farms also got a fifth-place finish on 3-meter by Hannah Moore in girls 16-18. She did not compete on 1-meter.

Ryan Helms, in boys 16-18 for the first time, was fifth on 3-meter and sixth on 1-meter. Helms won the state high school championship for a second straight year last Thursday.

Piemonte said Helms performed one new dive and a dive had that he had worked on at one time, but had not gone back to.

“And he hit both of those dives in prelims and in finals,” Piemonte said.s

On the 1-meter board, Helms finished first in the prelims.

Anna Aguero also competed in 16-18 for the first time. She was 12th on Anna Aguero also competed in 16-18 for the first time. She was 12th on 3-meter, but turned in a fine seventh-place finish in the platform event.

“She did real well to finish seventh on platform,” Piemonte said. “We haven’t had a chance to work much on tower.”

Nic Price did not qualify for finals, but Piemonte said he “was a victim of the new age group. He still did a lot of good dives.”

Owen Blank developed a fever when he reached Orlando and did not dive 3-meter. He elected to take part in the 1-meter event the next day, but did not perform at his usual level, Piemonte said.

Moss Farm’s younger divers also performed well.

Ronnie Piemonte was first among the three divers entered in the boys 11-and-under 1-meter event.

Elizabeth Ann Kirkland, also in 11-and-under, was third on 1-meter, ninth on 3-meter and 17th on platform.

“She did a great list of dives on 1-meter,” Ron Piemonte said. “She was right on the verge of winning.”

Also in 11-and-under, Leah Piemonte was fifth on 1-meter and seventh on 3-meter, and Audrey White was 10th on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards.

The Moss Farms divers will compete next in the Georgia All-Star Meet on March 3-4 and then prepare for Regionals, which begin at the end of March.
