Middle school wrestlers win three titles

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County middle school wrestling team finished fifth in the six-team South Georgia Athletic Conference tournament, but did have three weight-class champions.
Three more members of the Colquitt team wrestled to fourth-place finishes.
The tournament was held Saturday at Lowndes Middle School.
The Colquitt County team is in just its second full year of competition.
The Packers’ Tyler Dismuke won all three of his matches to win the 121-pound weight class.
Teammate Zack Cannon won both of this matches and won the 205-pound weight class.
And Chris Walsh also won two straight matches to claim the 225-pound weight-class championship.
Kenny Ashby split his four matches at the tournament to finish fourth in the 128-pound weight class.
Beau Weathers also went 2-2 and finished fourth in the 135-pound weight class.
And Bryce Giddens also went 2-2 and took fourth in the 185-pound weight class.
Jacob Hall did not place in the tournament although he won three of his five matches in the 79-pound class.
Dalton Murfin, at 86 pounds; Koty Thomas, at 93 pounds; and Myles Thompson at 128 pounds all went 2-2, but did not place.
Blake Powell also won one match in the tournament.
“That was a good end to the season for us,” said middle school wrestling coach Travis Torbert, who was helped this season by Ken Hall and Kevin Giddens.
“We were improved. We are making steps every year. And we’ll have a lot of kids coming back. That will help tremendously.”
