Packers fall to East Gadsden

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County High boys basketball team won two big Region 1-AAAAA games on Tuesday and Friday, but could complete a perfect week on Saturday, falling 70-55 to East Gadsden High in Havana, Fla., in a non-region contest.
The loss drops the Packers to 12-6 on the season as they prepare for a region rematch with Tift County on Tuesday in Tifton.
The Packers defeated East Gadsden 54-45 back on Dec. 23 at the Gladys Espy Gymnasium, but were unable to duplicate that effort on the road on Saturday.
The Jaguars jumped out to a 16-11 first-quarter lead and did not let the Packers back in.
Colquitt cut the the East Gadsden lead to four at the half, but could not make a second-half run.
Antwan Tuff led the Packers with 18 points. Jeremy DeBruce and Andrew Wallace each had 11.
James Trimble had six, Duke Banks added four, Corey Goss had three and Orion Ponder and Kamari Peterson each had two points.
The Packers will try to avenge a 57-52 loss to Tift Countywhen they travel to Tifton on Tuesday. The Blue Devils are 5-0 in the region.
Colquitt County’s girls were off Saturday.
Both teams face key region matchup on Tuesday in Tifton.
Both dropped their earlier games with Tift at home.
Colquitt’s girls lost 47-27 to the Lady Devils, but will take a 4-2 region record — and a 13-6 overall record — into the game.
Tift County’s girls are 3-2 and are coming off a 51-41 win over Houston County on Friday and a 61-32 non-region victory over Turner County on Saturday.
The Lady Devils are 15-5 overall.
