CCHS swimmers compete in Americus

MOULTRIE — A Colquitt County swim team depleted by injuries and illness competed in the Panther Invitational in Americus on Saturday, but several team members still were able to turn in some personal best times.
Only 13 of the team’s 19 swimmers were able to take part in the meet.
Houston County took the top spot among the 11 boys teams that competed, totaling 204 points. Host team Americus-Sumter County was a distant second with 53 points. Bainbridge was just a point back in third place.
Houston also was first among the 11 girls teams, with 146 points. Lee County was second with 85 points. Columbus High was third with 62.5 points.
The Colquitt County girls were able to put up 11 points in the meet.
Freshman Caroline Rogers was the top-scoring member of the Colquitt County team with 5.5 points.
Amy Peek, another freshman, had 2.5 points. Junior Becky Beason had 1.5 points.
A pair of sophomores had the other points, with Kristen Robinson getting one point and Ashlee Paramore scoring .5.
Colquitt County’s top performance came from its girls 400-yard freestyle relay team of Beason, Peek, Robinson and Rogers, which finished fifth.
The Paramore, Rogers, Peek and Beason teamed up to finish eighth in the 200-yard medley relay.
Rogers turned in a pair of sixth-place finishes, in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke. Peek was seventh in the 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard individual medley.
Also competing for Colquitt County on Saturday were Emily Casteel, Katy Weilbrenner, Sarah Price, Carter Jones, Tyler Perryman, Andrew Parker, Joe Peacock and Jacob Cobb.
Colquitt County will swim in the Lee County Invitational at Darton College next Saturday.
