MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County eighth-grade boys basketball team will open play in the South Georgia Athletic Conference tournament at 5:15 p.m. today against Newbern at the Newbern Middle School gymnasium in Valdosta.

The eighth-grade boys will be the first of the four Colquitt County middle schools teams to open tournament play.

The eighth-grade boys finished their season with a 4-8 record and are the No. 4 seed in the tournament.

A victory would send them to a second-round game at 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the Valdosta High gymnasium.

The eighth-grade girls also finished 4-8 and are the tournament’s No. 6 seed. They will play at 4 p.m. Friday against Tift County.

A win over the Lady Devils would allow them to advance to a second-round game at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

The championship games are scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Valdosta High.

Colquitt County’s seventh-grade boys, who finished 9-3, are the No. 3 seed in the tournament being held at the Eighth Grade Middle School gymnasium in Tifton.

Colquitt County will face Valdosta at 5:15 p.m. Friday, with a chance to advance to a 12:45 p.m. Saturday semifinal game.

The seventh-grade boys lost to Tift County twice — by one point and three points — and to Newbern by six.

The seventh-grade Packers avenged the loss to Newbern by defeating Panthers 26-20 on Tuesday.

Colquitt County’s seventh-grade girls, who finished 8-4, will play at 6:30 p.m. against Newbern, the team it defeated 30-12 on Tuesday at the Willie J. Williams Middle School gymnasium. A victory would send the seventh-grade Lady Packers to a 2 p.m. Saturday semifinal game.
