Seventh-graders sweep Coffee

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County seventh-grade basketball teams completed their season sweeps of Coffee of Thursday, taking a pair of South Georgia Athletic Conference games at the Willie J. Williams Middle School gymnasium.
The seventh-grade girls won their second straight after a disappointing loss to Tift County on Monday, downing the Lady Trojans 25-13.
The Lady Packers defeated Coffee 30-20 in November in Douglas.
Colquitt County’s Bria Wallace outscored Coffee by herself with 17 points.
Miranda Trim added six and Brittany Harris had one basket.
Coffee pulled to within six at 15-9 with a basket with 2:04 left in the third quarter, but Wallace scored two baskets and Harris another before the end of the quarter.
The seventh-grade girls are now 7-4.
The seventh-grade boys team jumped out to a 13-5 first-quarter lead and coasted to a 35-26 victory.
The victory raised the youngest Packers record to 8-3. They will get a chance to avenge one of those losses when they play host to Newbern on Tuesday.
Colquitt lost to Newbern 33-27 on Dec. 12 in Valdosta.
Cole Pitts and Cornelius James led the Packers with nine points each.
Pitts also led Colquitt with six rebounds.
Quan Daniels and Gary Thomas each had six points, Trey DeBruce added three and Tevin King had one basket.
The seventh-grade teams will close out the regular season at home against Newbern on Tuesday.
