MOULTRIE — A Moultrie man told police Wednesday about an attack the previous day in which one female acquaintance attacked another with a baseball bat.

Joe Drennen, 81, of a First Street Southwest address, told a Moultrie police officer he had gone to the police station when the alleged assault occurred to report it, but was told to call 911. Instead, he returned the next afternoon to file the report.

Drennan said the female acquaintance drank a few beers and took some pills Tuesday at his residence and suddenly became upset. She picked up a baseball bat and began beating Kathy Barney with it, he said. The woman then picked up Barney’s crutches and began using them to beat Barney, he said.

Barney sustained two black eyes and a couple of broken ribs from being beaten with the baseball bat, Drennan told police.

The officer said he did not see any marks on Drennen to show that he was injured, and the incident was turned over to the Criminal Investigation Unit for further investigation.
