MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County Board of Education is one of 11 Georgia school board to be recognized as a “School of Distinction” by the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) at its annual conference in Atlanta last week.

In addition to verifying compliance with GSBA’s Standards for Local Boards of Education, the school board provided documentation of a Web link to an Internet copy of the local district’s policy manual; a copy or Web link to the board’s goal setting model and listing of the district’s goals; a statement to identify the budgeted amount that has been targeted for student improvement strategies and a stated plan to integrate technology at the governance level of the local district.

The board is comprised of six elected citizens. Each member is elected to a four-year term. Currently on the board are Chairman Roy Reeves, Vice Chairman Tim Henry, Debra Hampton, Trudie Hill, Jerry Meister and Jimmy Taylor.

“It is an honor for our board to be recognized by the GSBA. As we want our system to be innovative and progressive, the Board of Education should lead the way. We hope this honor shows our effort in that regard,” Reeves said.

The Standards for Local Boards of Education is a voluntary program of the GSBA. It sets benchmarks of organizational structure and governance objectives for local boards of education that wish to participate in the program.
