MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County girls rebounded from a disappointing loss to Worth County last week by knocking off the Dougherty girls 43-29 on Friday in Albany, but the Colquitt County boys saw their two-game win streak come to end at the hands of Trojans.

Dougherty’s boys, ranked No. 5 in the state in Class AAA, trailed by five at the end of the first quarter, but outscored the Packers 25-11 in the second quarter and rolled on to a 64-56 victory.

The loss drops the Colquitt County boys’ record to 2-2 as they prepare to meet Worth County tonight at the Gladys Espy Gymnasium.

The Packers defeated the Rams 62-50 last Saturday in Sylvester.

The game marked the return of first-year Colquitt County High coach Kirven Davis to Albany, where he played at Dougherty High and at Albany State.

The Packers were led by Antwan Tuff who had 14 points. James Trimble added 12.

Ronald Wilson had nine, Andrew Wallace had eight, Amar Parikh and Jeremy DeBruce each had four, Orion Ponder had three and Kamari Peterson had two points.

Colquitt’s girls were coming off a 50-47 loss to Worth County, a team they had defeated by 36 points in the season-opener.

“That was a good win for us,” Lady Packers coach Joe Parker said.

“We played real good defense and we flat crashed the boards.”

The Lady Packers had a season-high 48 rebounds, including 10 by both Jessica Lemus and Ashley Stafford.

Taquella Coates had nine board and Tiffany Troupe added seven.

“Tiffany played hard,” Parker said.

The victory raises the Lady Packers record to 5-2 as they prepare to meet Worth County at 7 tonight at the Gladys Espy Gymnasium, looking for some revenge.

The game against Dougherty was tied at 10 after the first quarter, but it was all Colquitt County thereafter.

The Lady Packers led 21-16 at the half and 35-23 heading into the final quarter.

Colquitt County was led offensively by Nikki Hudson, who had a career-high 15 points. She also had five steals and five offensive rebounds.

Lemus, still feeling her way after May knee surgery, added 10 points.

“She looked good,” Parker said of Lemus. “She’s going to be back.”

Stafford and Nicole Thomas each had five points, Dorothy Strong added four and Coates and Laquita Smith each had two.

“We were real aggressive offensively,” Parker said. “That’s what we need to do. We kept coming at them.”

Following tonight’s games, the Packers and Lady Packers will be off until Friday, Dec. 16, when they play host to Thomas County Central.
