MOULTRIE — A local package store reported two alleged incidents of forgery and two alleged incidents of theft by deception Wednesday.
Linda Plymel reported the incidents to police after receiving word two money orders and two checks cashed at Plymel Liquor Store on Fifth Street Southeast were invalid.
The first forgery incident took place in June 2003. Reports said a male customer allegedly cashed a $100 Western Union money order June 17, 2003. Plymel told police the money order was returned because of a forged endorsement on it.
Both cases of theft by deception took place within days of each other in May. Reports said a male customer allegedly cashed a $350 check on May 14 from Comchek Comdata Network, Inc. The same man allegedly cashed a $250 check, also from Comchek Comdata Network, Inc., on May 19.
Both of the cashed check were returned to Plymel because of an invalid authorization code on the checks, reports said.
The final incident of forgery took place June 1. Reports said a female customer allegedly cashed a Western Union money order for $400 at the business. The customer told Plymel she received the money order from a male acquaintance when she cashed it.
The money order cashed by the woman was reported lost or stolen to Western Union, reports said.
The total amount of money lost by the store because of the invalid checks and money orders was $1,100, reports said.
