Rattlers advance in District

TIFTON — The Colquitt County 12-and-under Diamond Rattlers advanced in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association’s Class B District III girls softball tournament on Monday with a 14-4 victory over Thomasville.
The Rattlers will play in the final winners’ bracket game at 6 tonight in the tournament, being held at the E.B. Hamilton Complex in Tifton.
Two losers bracket games also will be played today. There will be no tournament games played on Wednesday, July 4.
The tournament will resume with the championship game at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Colquitt County’s Killer Bees, the other Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Department team in the tournament, dropped two straight games and was eliminated on Monday.
The Diamond Rattlers had six players with multiple hits, including Heather Tucker, who had three.
Brandy Murphy, Dreka Blakely, Jill Chafin, Kristy Kilgore and Krista Taylor each had two hits.
The Killer Bees lost their opening game in the tournament to Lee County 15-0.
Amy Campbell and Jessi Bell were the top hitter for the Killer Bees.
The team then met Thomasville and fell 8-3.
The top hitters were Whitney Hood, Carissa Inboden, Sara Walker, Heather Tillman, Jessie Stanford, Brittney Long, Megan Elkins and Jessica Taylor. Hood had a home run for the Killer Bees.
Colquitt County also has two 10-and-under teams in district play on Monday in Leesburg. Results from those games were unavailable.
