For April 10

Need an Arby’s

“I have lived in Moultrie my whole life and I don’t ever recall us having an Arby’s so why doesn’t Colquitt County build one?”

Immigration

“Some 4.9 billion people in the world live in countries poorer than Mexico. If you support current wide-open immigration policy in the USA, how many of those billions do you want living in your neighborhood and taking your family’s jobs?”

Pointless

“It’s pointless to argue religion and politics. People believe what they want to believe.”

On abortion

“The issue of abortion will be debated from now on. Personally I don’t think it should be used as a conventional form of birth control. However, when there is strong evidence that the fetus is malformed or when there is danger to the mother’s life, I think this becomes the call of mother and father, not politicians or religious groups. Perhaps you don’t remember the horror of the Thalydomide era of the 1960s.”

Cloning issue

“I agree with the letter that was written by the lady who is in a wheelchair. Cloning can serve a good purpose when it comes to medical research. Like any tool developed it can have its dark side and its good side. It all boils down to how well such a tool is regulated. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if researchers, through cloning of cells, find a cure for a terrible disease or grow new nerve cells so that a crippled person can walk? As for as producing look-alike people, though, no I don’t agree with that.”

Made me proud

“Today I was driving behind a car with a North Georgia tag on it. I don’t know who the people were, but they drove around the courthouse, pointing to it and obviously admiring it. It made me feel proud as a Colquitt Countian.”

Small town

“I drove downtown at night recently and got out and walked around the square. Our courthouse shone like a trophy. The smell of spring was in the air. There was a sense of peacefulness all about. I have lived in big cities where you can’t do that — at least not like what I experienced. I sat on one of the benches and took it all in. I realized how fortunate I was to live in a small town. God bless America!”

Don’t fret so much

“I think the trees on the courthouse square will look really nice when they fill out. If they block the view when they get bigger, they can be taken down. Nothing to fret about.”

Gospel sings

“To the person who thinks we need gospel sings, churches have gospel sings all the time. As far as holding them in the high school auditorium, that requires someone to put up front money to bring in groups and it requires that you buy tickets. It’s all about supply and demand.”
