Rant and Rave

Prom issues
“I would like to rant about our junior, senior prom. Every other school has a prom king and queen, and they have separate proms. Also, good job with the hard work that the junior parents have put into decorating the gymnasium.”
Great job
“I am raving about the Packer baseball team. The Packers don’t get the credit they deserve. I just want to say great job and don’t give up on your lofty goals that you all have set for yourselves.”
Grow up
“I am ranting about everyone crying over the flag issue. We have troops in Iraq right now fighting for freedom, while we are squabbling over a stupid flag. Grow up!”
Reagin is right
“Concerning the issue apartments: I am inclined to agree with Mr. Reagin. In my opinion, there are too many ‘affordable housing’ complexes in Moultrie. Some people who can’t exactly afford to buy a house, bring in too much income to qualify for these apartments. To my knowledge, there are only two or three complexes not in the ‘affordable’ category in Moultrie.
“How are we going to attract new industry here if companies pay too well for workers to qualify for ‘ ‘affordable housing’ but not quite enough to afford to buy a house? I say bravo and thank you to Mr. Reagin for making a stand.”
In response
“As we remove any flag that offends another person, race, or religion, let’s also take a good look at the state mottos and state birds.
“New Hampshire should not be allowed to have ‘Live Free or Die’ as their state motto. What’s this with Washington State calling itself ‘The Evergreen State’? Has anybody traveled East of Seattle for a couple of hours and driven in the sand dunes around Moses Lake, Wash.?
“Alaska should be required to have the Penguin as their state bird, but do they?
You are right; they want to neutralize the pride and patriotism that made America great and one of a kind.”
Perflect flag
“I have designed the perfect Georgia flag: A clear rectangle made of plastic, no color at all, with one word, GEORGIA, printed across it. That way, when each person looks at the flag, he can think whatever he wants.”
We moved on
“I was born and raised in Alabama where we often got criticized for having very public civil rights growing pains in the years of integration.
“But listening to the petty bickering over the Georgia flag makes me proud that we did go through those years. We faced our problems, grew up, and got over it.
“Alabama has a flag — it is pretty boring and plain. But when the citizens pledge to it or sing the state song (which is done at every public event, unlike Georgia which doesn’t) they don’t focus on the past. They see the present and the future of the state.
“Bands play Dixie as fight songs and no one minds, because it is just a a song now. Alabamians have learned what is really important. I wish that Georgia, and especially South Georgia, had gone through what we did — the state would be better off and the citizens would have moved on. Growth and change is sometimes painful, but necessary.”
