For Jan. 1
No park
“Okay, it’s the end of the year now and still no word on an industrial park. It appears we have gone from something to nothing. So what’s the score fellows?”
Mad cow
“Could mad cow disease be an act of terrorism? Or is this about poor health controls in our country?”
Nunn’s comments
“I listened to former Sen. Sam Nunn in an interview the other night and he makes a point that should shake us in our boots.
“On a question of the potential for deadly devices being brought into our country, he noted how few of our imports are actually inspected. And he made the point that we do a very poor job of stopping the import of illicit drugs so it’s probably a miracle that a nuclear device the size of a football hasn’t made its way into our midst.
“Nunn speaks with authority and vast knowledge. Too bad he’s not running for president.”
Horrible example
“When Dianne Sawyer interviewed President Bush the other night, he admitted that he did not read nor did he see the need to read — that the people around him told him what he needed to know. My God, is this our president? Hopefully our fifth graders didn’t see that interview. What a horrible example!”
Appreciation
“I appreciate Dr. Marcus Brown making Moultrie his home. He is compassionate and dedicated. Being a medical professional myself, I understand how time consuming office procedures can be. It’s nice to see how you work with people on month to month budgets. You have many stars in your crown.”
Good people
“I lost a tire on U.S. 319 and someone found it and put it in front of New Covenant Church where I could retrieve it. Thanks. There are good people out there. Have a happy new year.”
In response
“The people at the gas stations don’t make that much money. I would rather see some of our professional people like doctors and lawyers reduce their rates.”
Costs
“Had we not gotten ourselves into a ridiculous war and rebuilding of Iraq, we could better afford to assist the earthquake disaster in Iran.”
Religion
“I appreciate the editorial about religious freedom in America. Yes, we have broad religious freedoms but some religious folks are not aware of those freedoms because they are too busy wearing their religion on their sleeves and trying to shove their beliefs on other people.
“I heard someone say that our nation has turned away from God. I say speak for yourself. I see godly people going about their duties everyday. They are practicing rather than preaching. Might want to try that.”
Disagree
“I disagree with you about our religious freedoms. Taking the Ten Commandments out of that courthouse is just another example of how we have become a nation that doesn’t respect our Christian heritage.
“We have taken the separation of church and state thing way too far.”
