Rant and Rave

For Feb. 5
School issue
“I agree with the comments about Sunset School. I also think less attention should be paid to the grounds and more on the students. If you need to spend the money on the grounds then put some on the broken playground equipment around the school.
In response
“I am one of the biggest pet lovers. I have a Lab and a cat that are spoiled rotten. I also live on the highway. It is not my responsibility to pick up every cat, dog, possum, raccoon, etc. that gets run over in front of my house.
“If you people are so concerned about this problem, why don’t you spend your Saturdays riding around Colquitt County picking up these dead animals!”
No choice
“Let them change the flag back if they feel it’s needed, my only complaint was that I had no choice in the change. But that happens everywhere. Congratulations to Purdue for the “sin” tax, Maybe it is the only way to stop the spread of cancer.
It’s gone
“You can hang out at a flag pole for at least another year and if the present one does come down the old one won’t replace it; it’s gone. They could use the one prior to the 1956 change but the old one is gone.
Zig Zag Perdue?
“Old Gov. Sonny sure is easy to persuade to change his mind. Actually, that’s a little scary. It indicates to me he didn’t give the issues much thought to begin with. And let’s see … he’s our governor?”
Where are they?
“I don’t have a lot to rant or rave about, but I do want to know where the guys are that the writer was talking about. You know, the ones that respect us women and will treat us right.”
Smelly
“The people near the airport want to thank whoever spread the chicken manure in the nearby field. It’s a wonderful smell.”
Religion
“Someone addressed the difference between religion and spirituality. One might express either or both and still not embrace God.”
Get it right
“Let’s get it right. Gov. Barnes didn’t spend the state deep into debt. State spending is almost entirely based on current revenues. The state is required to balance the budget each year. Lower revenues are the problem.”
Non-binding vote
“Has a date for the non-binding vote on the state flag been set yet? I don’t think so. You see, President Bush wants Gov. Sonny to hold off on that issue until after his election. Of course the big Republican money men of Atlanta want him to bury it in a deep hole and throw away the shovel because it was their initiative that brought about the pressure to change in the first place. Oh but let’s don’t bother anyone with facts. Remember the kid who was very optimistic? When he saw all the manure he was sure it had to mean someone had given him a pony?”
