James Staley Morris Jr.

MOULTRIE — James Staley Morris Jr., 68, of Moultrie died Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at his residence.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Baker/Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Born March 21, 1937, in Colquitt County, Mr. Morris was the son of Mellie Mae Byers Morris and the late James Staley Morris Sr. He was a self-employed truck driver.

Survivors include his mother, Mellie Mae Byers Morris of Moultrie.

Maudie Elizabeth Meeks

BERLIN — Maudie Elizabeth Meeks, 78, of Berlin died Monday, May 23, 2005, at Brooks County Hospital.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Plymel officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Matt West, Robbie Barker, Tim Meeks, James Meeks, Spencer Meeks and Ward Barnes.

Born June 24, 1926, in Huntsville, Ala., Mrs. Meeks was the daughter of the late Tom and Katie Pendergraft. She was a homemaker and a member of Ellenton Church of God.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, the Rev. W.E. Meeks of Berlin; four sons, Bill Meeks and wife Roma Jean of Orlando, Fla., David Meeks and wife Joan of Medon, Tenn., and Ray Meeks and wife Nola and Danny Meeks and wife Jeannie, all of Berlin; two daughters, Sheila West and husband Oran of Berlin and Linda Marszalek and husband Mark of Valdosta; two brothers, Melton Pendergraft and J.B. Pendergraft, both of Huntsville; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 tonight at Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home.

Ollie Ophelia Goble O’Kelley

MOULTRIE — Ollie Ophelia Goble O’Kelley, 99, of Moultrie died Monday, May 23, 2005, at Sunrise Nursing Home.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 26, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Albritton and Winifred Giddens officiating. Interment will follow at Hopewell Cemetery. Grandsons of Mrs. O’Kelley will serve as casketbearers.

Born Aug. 12, 1905, in Pickens County, Mrs. O’Kelley was the daughter of the late William Byth Goble and the late Effie Williams Goble. She was a homemaker and a member of New Jerusalem Freewill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Hubert O’Kelley; three brothers, Claude Goble, Jack Goble and Cecil Goble; a sister, Berdie Cox; a granddaughter, Debbie Griffin; a great-granddaughter, Stacey Griffin; and a son-in-law, James Dalton.

Survivors include four sons, Wilburn E. O’Kelley and wife Grace, J.W. O’Kelley and wife Evelyn, James Alfred O’Kelley and wife Ruby E. and Charles Benny O’Kelley and wife Sallie Mae, all of Moultrie; a daughter, Helen O. Dalton of Eatonton; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral chapel.

Joseph Lamar Fowler

MORROW — Joseph Lamar Fowler, 58, of Morrow died Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at Southern Regional Hospital in Riverdale.

Arrangements will be announced by Cobb Funeral Chapel.



Lnetta C. “Nadine” Raper

ADEL — Lnetta C. “Nadine” Raper, 85, of Adel died Monday, May 23, 2005, at Memorial Convalescent Center in Adel.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Purvis Funeral Home in Adel with the Rev. Harris Whitman officiating. Interment will follow at Sparks Cemetery.

Born May 8, 1920, in Colquitt County, Mrs. Raper was the daughter of the late Strozier Carlton and the late Docia Celeste Bennett Carlton. She was a housewife and of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Minnie English, Gladys Gay and Winnie Green, and five brothers, J.C. Carlton, Zack Carlton, Tom Carlton, Strozier C. Carlton and Nathan C. Carlton.

Survivors include her husband, Johnnie J. Raper of Sparks; a stepdaughter, Linda D. Gibbs and husband Jimmy of Adel; two stepsons, Johnnie Dwayne Raper and wife Margie and Billy Wayne Crouch and wife Dorothy, all of Adel; eight stepgrandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
